so my girlfriend just picked up the 1st gen iphone, slightly used.

The chrome/metal trim around it is a little bit.. scufffed. Not scratched, because the marks look cloudy. Any idea how to get some of it out?

Not a big fan of those sheilds... I prefer to clean the screen each day with prescription eyeglass cleaner. The crystal clear screen looks sick!!! For a case, I use the black rubber type that only exposes the screen and has bumpers on each corner. Anything less and you're simply waiting for the next disaster.

I would tell you to try brasso? I guess maybe these pics will help. I know of lot of ipod users have restored the finish by using it.

not mine - example pics

before

after

do a search on ipod brasso and there are a lot of pics from various people
ipod brasso - Google Image Search

people have used it to fix their screens on other ipods as well
How to Repair iPod Scratches Yourself Cheaply and Easily

or have taken scotchbrite pads to scuff them up

I don't really have an answer as to why everyone uses "brasso" - as it's made for brass. I'd probably try silvo. It's just like it, but made for silver. I think someone just realized it had buffing potential, and it spun from there.

Might be worth a shot at least.

i need some advice guys. I bought my iphone 3g and its been giving me some problems. First, my txt ringer dosent go off all the time. It will ring for like 5 messages and then do nothing more than vibrate when i get a new message. I have to turn it off and then back on for it to work 5 more times. The second issue is my applications. I have the myspace app and it works for about one use. if i try to open the app again it sends me back to the home screen.

I wanted to know what to do. Do I take it back to the At&t store and exchange it for a new same model phone, since its still under store warranty? Or will they send me to Apple to get a refurbished phone? Can anyone help me please.

I always just take mine to the apple store and if they cant fix they give another. Usually a referb is what you get, but these are so new, your chances of getting a new one are good. I am taking mine back this weekend. I also have the text issue, but not the myspace. I also have an issue with the gps, which only worked twice so far, and my email is screwy. good luck.

as for the cases, i went with the belkin rubber/silicone case which works great. it keeps the slimline of the phone and still protects it. I then use the anti glare full front protector. both were bought at the apple store.

I tried getting the internet to work on my friend's iphone today, no dice. Someone told me it must be deactivated on his phone and had to turn on the abiliity to go on the net.

Someone told me you can't get a plan w/out internet but I'm starting to wonder. There really were no options that I could see to turn it on, other than like turning on/off the airplane feature and some other stuff. It just won't let him go on the internet w/out wifi, what gives?

try to reset it. hold down the home button and the power putton until the apple comes back on the screen, then release.

btw, thats apple's answer to every problem i present to them. its funny because they always ask, did you reset it, or however they word it. maybe i can get a job as an over the phone tech...haha.

aagghhh, she is hot, and has an awesome personality. If i was an iphone, i would freeze up too....haha. I end up doing it at least twice a week. I was also told by an apple tech that it is good to turn the phone off and back on everyday. i guess it dumps some type of cache maybe. i just hope they can get this damn gps to work, it was one of the reasons i upgraded. i also noticed that the 3g doesnt work anytime i go into a building, what the hell.....

i wish i could say the same. its funny you say your 3g works everywhere you have been because when i told them that it switches over to edge everytime i go into a building, they said it is suppose to because 3g will not work inside a building like the mall. wth..
