right...i went the the apple store today after work and got myself the 3g....i got the 1st gen iphone in january and still paid the $199 price for the 3g...

Cool... I bought my phone in October... just not down for the extra payments for 3G. It's an extra $360 (with 200 texts, goes up from there) during the life of the contract.

$199 + $360 or $299 + $360... I'm good plus I have a brand new 2G.

i thought the first iphone is a 1st gen which runs on the edge network and can run version 2.0 software. then the new iphone which runs on the 3g network is the 2nd gen phone that also runs version 2 software. I am assuming everyone is calling the 1st gen phone 2g unless the edge network is also called a 2g? so what is 2g?

2G network technology is predecessor of the 3G network technology... If u notice on the apple website, the maximum battery life has two seperate specs. If u constantly leave the 3G network on, your battery life is cut in half. If you use 2G... well you get it...

Maximum Battery Life
iPhone 3G offers up to 5 hours of talk time on 3G, 10 hours of talk time on 2G.

I think I found the answer... It works but all the programs I installed will work. I am going to wait for the 2.0 jailbreak is out and just do that

Correct. Although it won't let you download iTunes Apps for free. It also has the potential to allow you to use your iPhone on any other network besides AT&T, assuming the jailbreaking software has that capability.

hey andre that email u sent me...i cant do the update...the problem is..when i hold down...the option key..and click "check for updates" it doesnt allow me to search for the 2.0

So I'm sorry if this has been posted already but I'm to lazy to read thru all the posts.

Is there a fix for the delay when you go to your contacts? It also seems to lag from time to time when I'm typing a text message too???
