1. There is no horizontal texting becuase it would be extremely annoying if the accelerometer kept trying keep up with your hand rotation during a text. It can get annoying just surfing. That's why the desktop does not rotate either. A simple option to on/off would be nice, but it's better utilized just for full screen video and web browsing to maintain accurate screen size ratio. 2. If there is no 3G network or wi-fi available, it should transfer to the Edge network. This is a fact. Nothing to debate... (see bottom) 3. There is some lag in the iPhone, there always has been... it's .25 inch computer running totally on RAM. C'mon. 4. The 2.0 Megapixel built-in camera does have auto-focus, but again... what are you comparing these phone pics to? A stand-alone digi-cam? again... c'mon. I have no issues with the quality of pics versus your average cell phone pic... hell, I use them to dump stuff on ebay. No issues... Oh yeah, the lens has to be kept clean but that's normal. 5. If there is better all-in-one package on the market for a similar price... Please share! From Apple: More wireless. Less space. iPhone 3G delivers UMTS, HSDPA, GSM, Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR in one compact device — using only two antennas. Clever iPhone engineering integrates those antennas into a few unexpected places: the metal ring around the camera, the audio jack, the metal screen bezel, and the iPhone circuitry itself. And intelligent iPhone power management technology gives you up to 5 hours of talk time over 3G networks. That’s some of the best in the business. |

2) Apparently it is something to debate. As I said above, my friend's did not work. At all. Nothing. Nada. 3) I played with the Dare and there was zero lag... 4) Honestly, I think my 1.3 MP cam on my crappy phone now takes better pics. With the iphone, I felt like it kept trying to balance out the light and they kept coming out orangey and grainy. Not to mention, it's hard as hell to take like a pic of yourself since you can't feel the button (it should just let you tap anywhere on the screen to take the pic). They also all come out very blurry unless you're verrrry steady. No flash.. is there a camcorder on there (genuinely don't know, not trying to be a smartass)? I just felt like it was very lacking (for a phone that's supposed to be 'revolutionary') 5) LG Dare. I keep switching back and forth on my stance for this phone, but it is definitely competitive. Same price (199.99), better carrier (verizon, which > all imo), and lots of nicer features. I will admit, the iphone is much sleeker and in some ways more fun to play with (touch screen > dare's screen). However, the Dare has a 3.2 mp cam that takes very sharp pics, even in the darkness. It has Flash.. you can take panaromic pics (3 pictures, and then it lines then up to create a very wide shot). Camcorder that can record at 120 fps and play back in slomo.. It's pretty gimicky, a lot like the Iphone. The main reason I don't like the Dare is because it's not as 'fluid' as the iphone, where you can sling your finger down the screen and it'll keep scrolling, something the Dare fails to do. On top of all that, it's on a faster network. Anyways, not trying to derail with the Dare. I just thought the Iphone was lacking. Considering this is V2 of the Iiphone, it should kick ass, but it doesn't. It's just missing a lot of little, obvious thing. Last edited by I Vtec, do you?; 07-15-2008 at 06:16 PM. |

I held the 3G today at ATT. Honestly, I won't be getting rid of my 2G iPhone. I really didn't like how 'slick' and 'thick' it really was compared to my current phone. I really like how thin the one I have is. Its not really a deal-breaker, but it did feel different. (btw: my roommate just left to ATT to purchase a 3G. They don't have any in stock, so he's gotta order it and wait.)

My point is that the accelerometer is pretty damned sensitive. If your not in a normal straight up/down position, it can read your movements as a rotation and then you have to be still for a moment so it'll settle. This would get really annoying when your typing a text and even moreso with texts as long as you describe. Imagine a business person dealing with such a thing... you might appear quite silly in a conference room. Believe me, I know... hehe... As for the typing, you get more used to it than a playstation controller. I type so fast it typically draws comments from those watching. I learned to turn the key stroke "click" off soon after my powers grew...lol. Not sure why you're buddy's phone is working improperly or if it's a coverage/data plan thing. Irregardless, he's not getting the service or functionality that the phone is capable of. Besides that, I'm not familiar with the Dare. I'll be sure to check it out... but for some things in this life, there is no substitute. The iPhone just happens to be one of them... Similar to the item in your avatar.
