So I used my friend's new Iphone 3g today (had been planning getting one of them or the new LG dare) and I must say I'm hella disappointed. Maybe my friend was wrong about these things, but we'll see.
The keyboard - it doesn't go into landscape mode when texting? Was my friend just doing something wrong or is this intended? If so, that's a huuuuge design flaw. Camera - is there no autofocus or anything? It took terrible pictures, which I wasn't expecting since people generally say it's a decent camera Lag - is there a firmware update coming? It seemed to lag a lot when choosing between certain things. And the worst imo.. no internet w/out wifi? Is that for real? That is the main, 100% absolute thing I want in a new phone - the ability to surf the net when I'm not in a building w/ my laptop or something. Does this thing really not work w/out wifi? Are all phones like this?!! I thought for certain that was the point of having a broswer on the phone, I suppose I was wrong. Anyway, feel free to comment and tell me if I was doing something wrong. I left the phone disappointed. |

you should be able to surf the net anywhere you want. it will pick up wifi if a network is present, but you dont have to use it. either way, you should always be able to get online unless you are in the middle of the woods and there are no towers within the range.

Also, you were wrong about the wifi. It does ask you anytime it picks up a wifi signal if you want to use it. Best thing about it? It remembers the location so you don't have to always re-type a password or tell it to rejoin the network. My keypad does lag from time to time, yes, however, it's just a visual lag. I can keep typing and it remembers what I've touched. Slight annoyance, yes, but only because I can't tell when I mis typed a word right away, and won't know if it auto corrected the spelling (which I ******* LOVE this feature). No, SMS texting does not flip horizontally, which I too found kind of strange. BUt, if you are using a program that does work horizontally, it will let you use the keypad horizontally. This doesn't really bother me much, but it would be cool to use the SMS feature horizontally so that the keys are slightly bigger. Then again, I am already used them both ways. It's all just a matter of which part of your finger you realize is hitting the screen when you type. Camera. It focuses just fine, you just need to hold it still. Maybe you were talking about a picture stabilizer? I agree, it is kind of hard to take a picture if you don't have steady hands. Also, it is very hard to take pictures of moving objects. Anyway, I didn't buy it for the camera as i have a DSLR. My favorite feature I wish I could use more often. The GPS. Download Yellowpages app and you have a Garmin on your phone. It will tell you what's nearest to you of what you are looking for, hit the address, and it will route you there with the GPS. I wonder if there is some way to track our phones if they get stolen/lost. This would be a good app someone could make for home computers to track. Ummm... That's about it for now. I just hope my damn ivyskin case comes soon. I'm so worried about scratching the casing!! This thing gets babied like none other.... except when I have phonesaber battles :)

^^ I donno about what you said..
My friend (owner of the phone) told me that the internet on it only worked with wifi. I didn't beleive it so when we went on a kwik trip run later, I asked him to try and load a page. A screen came up about no wifi being in the area and the page couldn't load. And what am I wrong about the wifi with? I'm not sure what I said about it that was wrong. As for the lag, I'm more talking about the lag between opening programs, clicking on stuff, etc etc. It was just annoying. And yeah, I meant more of a picture stabalizer than autofocus, my bad. With the dar that I was using, it was very easy to take a picture and have it come out crisp. With the iphone, the lighting made every picture have a hazy orange look and they were usually a bit blurry. |
