Right up my alley... I have been in the wireless industry about 8 years now. I have worked with AT&T way back, T-Mobile, and now I'm employed with Verizon. So far Verizon has been the best company to work for, pay, products, COVERAGE, and most importantly... the LEAST IRATE CUSTOMERS! When I was at T-Mobile, that seemed like all I did was have to bend over backwards to make people happy. In terms of phones, Verizon probably has the coolest 'phones' while at&t will have better PDA options. However, the new 8830 Global Blackberry at Verizon is pretty sweet. I personally have an LG8700 and I like it a lot. The LG9400 is pretty killer too. We have a new orange enV coming out in the next few weeks. One of my friends worked at Cingular "the new at&t" had the Blackjack and that was pretty cool too. Depending on where you live, going to at&t or T-Mobile may hamper your cell phone service. The GSM carriers have a few more restrictions on tower locations and whatnot. Large cities on the other hand should not be an issue. I live in southern MN so Verizon works best for me personally. If any other Verizon customers here on the 8th have any questions regarding Verizon service, feel free to look me up...

I have the BlackBerry 8300 with AT&T and I love my phone and the network. However, since Cingular has become ATT, the five-star customer service I have experienced for years on Cingular has disappeared. If you ever have a billing problem....they are not very helpful, not even the managers. However, they have a great warranty program on their phones and you can get a new phone when your phone breaks inside a 1yr period. This applies as long as you have not physically damaged your phone. They help you troubleshoot and send you replacements via FedEx 2day for free. I have friends on Verizon, and their warranty programs are not as free with replacements, or at least thery aren't in their experiences. Overall they are still good, but now that it is AT&T, I am concerned with long-term quality.
PS I had the Treo 750... unless you like a phone that freezes during an incoming call, and has to recharged every 12 hours, you DON'T want it. I also had the BlackBerry 8800. It is really thin, but it very wide, it wasn't my fav. I had the 8700c for over a year and it was a great phone. The 8525 is very nice...had that too. It needs to be recharged every 24 hours and needs a daily soft reset. I stuck with BlackBerry because they have THE BEST email interface, and offer many capabilities of other PDA phones without sacrificing battery life. But if you are looking on the non-PDA side..I had the RAZR V3xx. It is a tried and true design and is quite capable for just a phone. It has a good camera, VERY fast 3G internet speeds (the fastest mobile phone in USA - 3.6Mbps HSPA), and a nice Hi-Res screen. It is easy to talk on and has a superb speakerphone. --of course this all only applies if you go with AT&T.

JK i have had tmobile since owning a cell phone, since like a senior in high school so like five years now, and I have never had a problem (well except for when I went to Europe but that's a whole other story). Phones are phones...it all depends on what you need. I just use mine to text and talk...I work on the computer all day so I wouldn't use a sidekick/blackberry...although I think that the tmobile dash is pretty cool if you want a phone with internet capabilities...

Hey Ryan. An eligible upgrade is when you have completed a certain amount of time on a 2 year agreement. i.e. With Verizon, if you sign an initial 2 yr agreement when you purchase a phone at a discount, or start a new plan, Verizon customers can "upgrade" after 20 months. (Recent policy change) This also makes you eligible for an additional $50 or $100 credit based on the price plan you are on (New Every 2) If your monthly calling plan is $59.99 or higher, you would have a $100 NE2 credit coming off the top of the phone price. The LG-VX8700 currently in the Midwest area is $199.99 on a 2 year agreement. You would have $100 off instantly, so your "out the door" price is $99.99 plus tax, and then you will also qualify for the $50 mail-in rebate, bringing your net cost to approx $50! And if you have a $50 NE2 credit, $199.99-$50=$149.99 - $50 rebate = Net $99.99. Everything on the Verizon website should be 'near' identical to your corporate store pricing. The biggest issue with ordering online is that if anything is not right with the phone, and needs to be exchanged, it has to be sent back to the online team. (The website and the stores run on 2 seperate inventory systems, so your local store will not be able to return it) In regards to your plan, or anything "new" my best advice is to honestly just walk into the store and ask one of the reps, "I'm thinking of upgrading my phone, and re evaluating my plan to make sure I have everything I need, can you help me with that?" You will get results! We are specifically trained on situations like this, and with you resigning a 2 yr agreement, its commissionable for the rep. Make sure you get all of the details before signing on a plan, and away you go! If it comes down to it. I can pm you my number, shoot me a text with your number, and I can take a look at it sometime at work. Easy Easy... Hope this helps... Later!

Stay with Verizon. I switched to them about 4 years ago and I'll never go anywhere else. The coverage is great and the audible turn-by-turn directions rock. Verizon doesn't have the greatest phone selection compared to other carriers, but their phones aren't that bad. Besides, how fun is a sweet phone if the reception sucks?
I picked up the LG VX8600, it's basically LG's answer to the Razr. The phone rocks, takes goos pics, and the music sounds really good. Not to mention you don't have to buy new ringtones from Verizon, you can make them from MP3s using free, easy to use software. |
