Computer help needed

Ok, so my computers running like sh*t lately. Prolly a virus or something, IDK, it freezes constantly, and when its not freezing, its running slow and crappily. Anyhoo, im thinking if I delete EVERYTHING and start from scratch it might fix it (think they call that 'formatting' a hard drive) So yeah, how would I go about doing this?

Just FYI, its a newer dell computer, and I use windows XP... so y'know... yeah

Want to give me the make and model? If you have a Dimension or Inspiron, then it's likely we loaded your system with a ghost partition and given you didn't tamper with the partition, it should still be there.

Look on the tower and tell me what the model is i.e. Dimension, Optiplex, etc. It'd help a lot.

SpyBot FTW. If clearing your system of viruses/adware/malware doesn't work, try a harmless System Restore. If that doesn't work, then curse the damned thing and save all your work/data to a disc/external HD or something before doing a Full System Restore.

Its about a year old at the moment...

People keep telling me to use the windows disc or whatever, but yeah, I dont have that unfortunately. Is there a way to do it without it?

As far as saving all my stuff it doesnt really matter, the only things I'd keep are my music and all my tv shows, movies n stuff...

usually dell has a system restore type disk rather than just give you a windows xp cd

Try Crlt + F11 at the Dell logo screen. Should bring up a ghosting software that'll store your computer back without discs.
