unless you have a PDA phone with windows mobile(which the sidekick doesnt) you pretty much have to buy the ringtones. On some phones there are ways around it like programs that convert mp3's to .midi files, but this is only with certain phones. Look on amazon.com or go to bestbuy and see if you can find some "ringtone maker" software cheap that will work with the s3

I don't know if the sidekick plays mp3s, but if it does, you can used some software called audacity that lets you cut out clips of songs, and then send them to your phone.
I have an mp3 phone with Bluetooth, and my computer is Bluetooth, so I just cut a clip that I like then send it via Bluetooth to the phone, it is great! I can change my ring tone everyday if I want to. |

Actually there are some phones which can be put MP3 as ringtone through your SD memory card or such memory card or system's memory through USB. Though the MP3 you have might be long so the ringtone only plays at curtain length. I don't know if Sidekick3 has that feature. But I believe most phones with SD card have that. I dunno Mess around with the MP3 in your memory card to set it as your ringtone.

To make your own ringtones to work on new tmobile phones (I only work with Tmobile phones but im sure that cingular does the same shady work) You have to add drm to the file that you want to be a ringtone unless you get an unbranded handset. to add drm to a file to make it a ringtone, get an mp3-3gp converter (google it). Convert your mp3s to 3gp. load them onto the corresponding folder and yer dun@

i got the sidekick three when it first came out (upgraded from the sidekick 2) and i sent it back within a week for a regular phone.. my sidekick 2 was broken and i was souped about the sidekick 3.. only to be disappointed.. the sidekick three in my opinion is terrible, the buttons the battery life everything. if my sidekick 2 wasn't broken i would still be using it.. i researched as much as i could about making a mp3 a ringer for the sidekick 3, won't happen... i'm just waiting to see what the future brings.. i heard some buzz about the next generation sidekick (whenever that may be) that it might have a wi-fi capability that would be pretty SA-Weet!!! i'm done rambling...

2.Download the install file and follow the onscreen installation instructions if you are using a separate ringtone-making program. Navigate through the website to the page that allows you to upload music if you are using an entirely online solution. 3.Click on the "Upload" button on the website or software program, then navigate through your computer's hard drive to the folder that contains the song you want to use. Double-click on the song to upload it. 4.Type in the starting point and ending point of the song you want to turn into a ringtone and click "OK." Specify where you want the file to be saved to, then enter a name for the file. Wait for the program to finish converting that portion of the song to a ringtone, then pull out the USB cable that came with your Sidekick 3 phone. 5.Plug the cable from the phone into the USB port on your computer. Wait for the menu to pop up, then choose the option to "open a folder to view files or folders." Double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop or "Start" menu. Navigate through your hard drive to the location where you saved your new ringtone. Click on the music file and drag it over to the first window you opened. 6.Remove the USB cable once the file has transferred, then turn your Sidekick 3 off and then back on. Press the phone's "Menu" key and choose the "Settings" option. Choose the "General" option, then "Incoming Ring Tone." Select the music file you transferred to set it as your ringtone. Note: A good website to do this is Make Your Own Ringtones - Free Ringtone Maker Also, for this website, you have to place markers where you want the ringtone to start and end by clicking in the gray music timeline. |

or just use audacity, that's what I use. You can take any mp3 file and edit out only the part that you want to use as a ringtone, save it as a wav file (or get the mp3 exporter) and transfer it to your phone. *I only know wav files to work on winmo phones. |
