Help with iTunes
When you rip CDs into iTunes, what bitrate are you ripping at and what format are you using. I started out using AAC 128kbps, but I'm starting to think that Apple lossless may yield better quality. However, I just ripped a CD and all the songs have different bitrates. I'm getting some at 904, 926, 728, etc. Does this make the file size bigger and take up more space on my iPod? Is the sound quality any better? Just curious as to what everyone else is using.

If you are ripping for your iPod I'd recommend 192. 128 is pretty poor quality, 192 is a fair bit better but at the same time good for the space conscious.
Personally I rip my songs in Apple Lossless. I have a pair of high quality headphones and run them through a portable headphone amp so low quality rips will sound especially bad and obvious. All high bitrate formats and lossless formats eat up a lot of space though, so be warned. The varying bitrates you are getting is because your computer is ripping them in some kinda of VBR (or Variable Bit Rate) format. That is normal. |
