Help me decide! HDTV!
I finally went through with buying a ps3 (more like I saw 1 left at best buy and couldn't let it go).
I don't have an hdtv yet though! I need help deciding between 2 if anyone wants to help... I won't be using it for HDTV any time soon, but its just for my ps3 and blu ray movies now. I just need it for my room, so anything larger than 27" is out of the question, but at the same time I need something more than 21". I've narrowed my search down to a Go Video 27" or a Samsung 23" Here are the links to both: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889025002Go Video 27" HDTV $440 after rebate and shipping Pros: Cheap, 1500:1 Contrast Ratio, 8ms Cons: Not quite the name brand/quality of Samsung, twice as heavy, not as aesthetically pleasing. Samsung 23" HDTV $550 Pros: 3000:1 Contrast ratio, 8ms, Sleeker and lighter than the Go Video Cons: Smaller screen, more expensive. I heard that as far as contrast ratio measurements go, there is no set standard... but as far as 1500:1 goes.. it seems higher than most other competitors aside from Samsung. If there are any other good deals out there, feel free to chime in as well! Thanks ahead of time for your opinions |

Hmm i'll look into the sharp. I'm really trying to minimize cost too though. I don't need "the best", just something that seems to be the best bang for my buck. I'm trying to limit my spending to under 600$ at most.. and only if I really need to spend that much.
Also, I don't think I'd be sitting much further than 8 feet away from the tv |

I don't exactly have the money for a tv that large or even the use for it. Perhaps in the future yes, but for now I'm really just looking into a nice 1080i/720p for the time being. Also, people are starting to even question the use of a 1080p tv since they only real time anyone would notice the difference between a 1080p and a 720p is if they are sitting at a distance that's within 3 times the height of the tv itself (approximately). From a normal viewing distance of say a 42"LCD, there would really be no noticeable difference. I've only been researching about HDTVs for a couple days now, so please correct me if I say something stupid :P Last edited by taejinah; 12-26-2006 at 06:54 PM. |

if you aren't going to get a tv that is over 40" you might as well get a cheap lcd to hold you over. |

Ah ok, I was probably reading some older articles or something. Thanks for those corrections.
But yeah, I guess bottom line is that I'm a student on a budget and don't really have any use for a tv larger than 27" (and consequently no use for 1080p in this case) since it's just going to be used in my room. Thanks for the help so far. I'm still kinda torn between those 2 other tv's though I guess I'm really just questioning the quality of Go Video as opposed to Samsung where I'll be pretty much gauranteed to get a high quality tv. |

I woulnt normally chime in either, but Id save some coinage and get a 42 inch Sharp Aquos 1080P. Just got one and can vouch. Also why pay for a 600 video game system and play it on a crappy display thats going to be outdated real soon too. Unless your strictly going to use it for ps3([though not fully utilizing the Ps3 thus not justifying the cost[/i]) and maybe a pc monitor too. ALso make sure it has HDMI and DVI as thats a digital connection.

You should either find someone with a Sams Club membership, or shell out for one.
I think its about $560 right now, but Samsung has a 30" Widscreen SlimFit TV which is absolutly brilliant. I bought it over the summer for about $640 and have NEVER had buyers remorse about it. At the time, it was one of the best tube TV's you could buy, and it really has shown through on its quality http://samsung.com/Products/TV/SlimF...3079WHXXAA.asp Easy to use menu's Looks EXCELLENT with High Def. Gaming such as 360 and HD media too. Oh, and if $560 is too much, then you can get the 27" 4:3 SlimFit. |

I only voted for Samsung because it is a better TV but I'd save some money and get a bigger screen. And with that, I don't mean going with some cheap ass "Go Video" quality.
