I'm new to Ipod....your opinions on the Honda Ipod car-link??
I just got a really good deal from a friend that was hurting for money. I got the 30GB video Ipod for $140 barely used. I definitely want to get the part from Honda so i can install the Ipod in the SI. I noticed that you have to remove pieces of the dash or whatever to install the Ipod link...my question is did anyone notice any new dash creaking or rattles after taking some of the dash pieces off? With the vehicle already having some annoying sounds from the factory that i have learned to live with i dont wanna create more for myself. Most of us realize that quite often once you start removing interior pieces and re-installing them, things will begin rattling a little more. Opinions ? Thanks in advance. peace

FM Transmitter not needed. (I used to work at the Apple Store, those things suck anyway, they really do) All new Civics--including Si's, certainly--and a LOT of newer cars, have an AUX in port. This is all you need. If you have a fairly new Si, or new Civic, you already have it. Don't rewire your car with an expensive iPod car-link package. You don't need it.
In fact, you don't need to buy anything, except an auxilary cable (plugs into your iPod's headphone jack, then into the AUX port in the dashboard of your car, near the cigarette lighter) which you can pick up at Radio Shack for a few bucks. The iPod sounds GREAT coming through the sound system of an Si. |

the two reasons i would prefer the monster fm transmitter i have compared to an auxilary cable is that i control the volume with the car volume itself (so i dont have to crank the volume up on the ipod and then mess to the volume on the car to get the sound im looking for) and it keeps my battery charged. and those with an ex or si that need the cigarette lighter you should have another 12v outlet in the center console
sometimes in certain areas it doesnt work, but i havnt had a problem with it for two years up and down california, va, md, pa, de, and ny. |

I never thought I'd see a rationale for claiming an FM transmitter would be the preferred choice. FM transmitters are a substitute, for those who have cars without an aux jack.
The opinion expressed here must be pure speculation, not based on driving a car with an aux jack. Though I understand your loyalty to your previously-purchased substitute device (FM Transmitter) I'm confident that if you had a choice in real world driving you'd immediately agree, the built-in auxilary jack's sound quality wins, hand down. A. You can control the volume with ease, via the car's volume controls, of course. B. You can keep the iPod's battery charged with the same ease, the car's auxilary power source (cigarette lighter) and an iPod power adapter for car. It's the same principle. C. You're not depending on radio signals to get music from the iPod to the car's deck. It's a direct line into the car's stereo. |

No FM transmitter that you can buy off the shelves of any electronics store will come close to the sound quality of the AUX input. Turn your ipod up all the way and adjust the volume from your steering wheel or knob on the dash...really couldnt be simpler.
