Shoud I get Panda or CYberdefender?
I've been poking around on this site and I already know that everyone here is so smart about stuff. It's been such a pleasure reading and learning. So I need a little help.
I'm not sure what the deal is cause I've gotten a couple of virus in the past month and that shouldn't have happened cause I have Norton and AVG both on my computer. I'm not really a pro with this stuff - none of it really makes too much sense to me - I just thought I was protected and I guess I wasn't. So since I don't want to rely on something that is "free" I've been looking at forking out the dow for a good one. My nieghbor recommends Panda, and my brother says he uses Cyberdefender - both have pretty good reviews: Cyberdefencer seems to do everything from cover me from viruses trojans, spyware and protects my identity from getten stolen online, but Panda seemed easy to use (and that's good for me) but it doesn't seem like it has as much stuff - but a lot seem to use it. On CNEt AVG gets goods scores - but I've already not had good experience with that one. Panda gets 3 stars from them: Panda Antivirus Pro 2009 - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com, and Cyberdefender got 3 1/2 (but with more reviews) CyberDefender AntiSpyware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com I am leaning toward Cyberdefender - it's cheaper. Like I said, I've heard of Panda and it is mentioned a lot, but Cyberdefender is not mentioned much. They are public, but is it a good anti-virus program? Are there any others I shold look at before I decide? Thanks for the input. |

AVG or Avast (both free) is all you should need. You will see that even if you spend money on Virus software it is not going to make a difference. All that really matters is how well the virus databases are updated and both those companies update theirs daily or more.
Are you getting viruses or spyware? I have trouble believing any serious viruses got past AVG unless you weren't updating it. Spyware on the other hand is much easier to get infected with, primarily through uneducated surfing/browsing habits. Avoid the shady websites and questionable downloads/emails and you shouldn't have any trouble avoiding viruses. To keep your PC virus free: 1. Keep your Windows Updates updated 2. Keep your virus definitions updated 3. Get a free spyware cleaner like Lavasoft Ad-Aware and run that occasionally. 4. Avoid sketchy websites and emails, dont download anything which is even remotely questionable. If you do question the validity of a download then run a virus check on the one file before opening it. I haven't had a virus in years *knock on wood*. In my opinion they are very easily avoidable in these days. Good luck, dont waste your moneyz! Last edited by duk; 06-10-2009 at 11:52 AM. |
