need help finding a camera
I'm looking for a camera for my research, which means I need to take close up pictures of disks about the size of coins with some detail. I've noticed some of my previous cameras are not very good at this. Any suggestions as to what kind of camera I should go with, I'm trying to stay under the 300-400 range.

I had a cannon, previous to my current camera which was a very nice camera, but at the time of my upgrade the cannon's available, and I still think do not meet my criteria.
I dont know if you need, or want, a subcompact camera, but I really like mine. I think they make a 8.0 mp one now.. but here's what mine has,, it's a 2.5" lcd screen and is about 3/4" thick and is a 7.2 mp cam.. Here's the c.net link: http://reviews.cnet.com/Casio_Exilim...-31319589.html It has a very tough design which was lacking heavily in the cannon compairable cameras.. and here are some pictures I managed to snap, which have the same clarity cropped or put on full screen: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope this helps.. I only stand behind products that I'm happy with.. (SCREW THE RAZR ).and I recommend them to others.. (I got this camera at costco for a good price with some free extras.. you should check out costco even if you wind up with the cannon.) I'll have my phone review out soon though btw .. but yeah.. gl on the camera purchase

^^^ THanks, how is fro close up pics, I really don't want to bother with cropping because I may be taking 10-20 pics at time and don't want to set around cropping all day, so the better it is close up, the better I think it will work out. And you say it's rugged, you mean it's built tough? Because my advisor is VERY tough on his stuff, you should see his Sont Viao notebook.... it's sad.

If you want REALY close up, check out the S2/S3 IS series cameras. They have AWESOME macro modes (TWO in fact). In fact, you can get so close that you'll need bacing to take any sort of good pictures. :)
We use one in the store, so I can give some examples! http://cgi.ebay.com/1896-Morgan-Silv...QQcmdZViewItem :) No cropping. As you can see, we can get pretty close, in fact, the camera was actually touching the coin for the date shot. Durabilty is off the scale. The buttons are pushed in a little, and they're insensitive, but we really beat on the camera at work. Probably fell from standing height more than a handful of times.
