one night my internet was super slow maybe below 56k slow. Thinking it was the router I disconnected the router and plugged my computer straight to the modem, Problem Solved. The next day i wanted to use my wireless laptop downstairs so i tried to connect the wireless router again. But for some reason it would not work, I checked connections a million times, all the wiring is alright. I reset and begin the installation process, it cant find an internet source. I know its the modem that defected i tried everything

Normally when you disconnect your wireless router and plug it back in (to the modem) you would need to unplug your modem and plug it back in (after 30 secs) to let it reset? Most of the time this works. If this dont work maybe it is broke.

But the main thing is when your reinstalling your wireless router is once you have everythign connected again. Unplug your MODEM and plugging it back in. Try that. If it doesnt work then maybe there is somethign wrong with your router. ![]() Hope i didnt confuse you bud. But its bed time now for me. I'm on east coast time. If you dont want to keep it send it to me... ![]() GL |

Maybe it's your router; maybe it's your modem.
To test if it's your modem, just connect it directly to your computer and see if you can use your internet. If that's the case, it's your router. If you still can't connect, you may be having ISP issues. If it DOES work and doesn't work when you reconnect your router, your router may not be able to pick up the signals from your modem. Or perhaps, your router hasn't picked up your external IP (Most of the time when you have a LAN at home, your IP address will look something like 192.168.x.xxx). Remember to power cycle your equipment if you're not getting connections. Unplug your equipment for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. I've had trouble with my old D-Link router that just froze on me (stuck in reboot mode). I switched to an Airlink MIMO router ($30 at Fry's) and I've been happy with it. Strong signal throughout the house and 80% signal in my backyard. |

every router has a 1yr warranty no questions asked. Linksys has the best customer support.
Reset the modem then reset your router. Thats how it works. But send it back and get a new one from the factory. takes 1 week =) they send it express shipping i had issues with my linksys and they sent me a new one. |

MEH BEFxxx routers are TERRRRIBLE, i work at steris (www.steris.com) and we have over 6,000 field users so many people have it and it is a terrible router, just go with a wrt54g... works like a charm... |

You can't go wrong with a wrt54g. I've used hundreds of these things and if you are going to buy a consumer grade model that is the one to get. If you are going to spend $130 I'd get a Netgear, not the cheapo plastic ones, however. Get one of the models with the dark blue metal case, they will not disappoint.

I hated Netgear. My blue metal netgear would drop my internet and needed to be reset everyday. Sometimes in the middle of a counter strike game. That was years ago, so I am sure they have fixed it, but once you get that bad taste in your mouth...
I bought a Linksys since then and haven't looked back. I have never had a Linksys crap out on me, I have upgraded and given my old ones to family members who are still using them. Linksys is a division of Cisco (not created by Cisco, bought out by them), which is all we use at work, and they know their shit. We are like a Silver Cisco partner I think so we get hooked up pretty well. |
