You might need a new video card. I once had a problem with a computer shutting off when I tried to play a video. A new video card fixed the problem.

check to make sure you have the latest drivers. I'm assuming you have all the plug-ins since you used to be able to watch them. Try re-installing plug-ins and drivers.

You might have messed up video codecs. There are probably a few out there that will play the same video format but the dominant/primary one could have a problem.

Has any kind of error popped up before this happened? What player are you using?

Agree with scourge...try not to use too many Codecs. Or if you need that many, try to install them all within the same timeframe. And don't go nutso on file associations.

Or try VLC.

I'd look into removing all the codecs you're currently using. You can either find those in the Add/Remove Programs, or you'll have to hunt for them...if you're letting Windows Media Player do the searching for you.

reformat your harddrive last option. If still don't work. Time to get a new graphic card. Yet, check online whether they have any patch or solution to it.

I have the same problems. I purchase a new one after all other method didn't resolve my problems w/ the graphic card.

I doubt your card is bad. Either remove and reinstall your vid card driver using the latest version supplied by the manufacturer. Stay away from beta versions.

it would also help if you tell us if all the movie players on your computer aren't working. If it's just Windows Media Player, that's one thing. If it's ALL movie players, (Quicktime, Real, DivX), then that would indicate to me something else is up.

you should remove existing vid drivers. then the PC will boot in 16 color mode/safe mode. then reinstall using the exe downloaded from the site.

Search for the driver the video needs (use gspot) and download it. :)

Click "install" or the .exe file, and you're GOOD TO GO!

Gspot tells pertinent information of the video file you want to play. Let's say you load up xxxxxxx.avi into the program. It will tell you which codecs you need (don't know if it supports .ogm and .mkv though...). That way, you can download that codec specifically without using major packs...which can be screwy.
