Mac user here!
![]() Used to work at Apple Corporate in Cupertino, CA and implement user interfaces for applications and web sites -- things like iTools, .mac, iDVD, iTunes, etc. I then worked as a Genius for the first few months as Apple was opening the new retail stores. (retail sucked, lol) Anyway, a MacBook in black is my everyday computer. peace, Tai |

A few years ago I had the chance to get a new work machine to replace an aging SGI. Went with a dual G5 and 23in Cinema Display. Had some minor issues early on with some memory going bad but it is working well now. Before I had to do all my scientific processing on the SGI then use a Windows PC for everything else (Word, Excel, PPT). Left little room on the desk to work!
With that experience in hand we bought an iBook for a home laptop. The wife loves it. I am not sure about the Intel Mac's. Will definately wait and see how well they do. |

I'm not a fan of mac's, but probably only because I wouldn't use it for what it's made for. That commercial where the two guys are standing next to eachother and the "windows" guy gets a virus and "crashes" irks me, since macs are not immune to virus' like that commercial basically says.

There are though, in truth, some shell scripts and trojan horses (that require you to click "ok run this, im a tard" and another box [or prompt] that makes you type in your admin password) BUT NO true self propagating, self attacking Virus like on windows. Yes its unix, and yes there are security holes that exist for a few weeks now and then in different daemons until a patch comes out, but again no true viruses. Tai |

My pop's uses a Mac. I forgot what model specifically, but I'm looking into a notebook to replace my Windows-based machine. Waaaay too many issues with Windows right now for me to stick with them. Mac's don't really have virus' now, but I'm wondering how that's going to change when they start shipping their Window-running machines.

It wont have any effect on the Virus situation because of the implementations, either full virtual sandboxes with windows in it or a full reboot to run nothing but windows (now the windows part can get infected but it couldn't infect the mac side) |

First computer was running Windows and it was the worst experience for my family and I. I tried not to complain, since my mom but the computer for my brothers and I, but it was so bad. After graduating High School and I borrowed my mom's credit card, with her permission of course, and bought one of the original colored iMacs running Mac OS 9. Since then my family has only owned Macs, 4 total, and we have never looked back.
Lately my friends have been getting Macs as well, since they had their own bad experiences. Currently using the las gen Emac G4. |

I use a Mac at work from time to time but I prefer my PC as there are more programs and tools for the Windows based PCs as oppose to Mac based PCs.
Last year I introduced PCs to my art department because there were way too many problems with fonts, Adobe CS, Quark and network congestion with the Apple based systems. Switching to Windows based PCs has solved those issues but it forces me to be more vigilant on the security end. At first the Maclots were resistant but once they grew tired of the Mac issues they were open to the Windows solution. Productivity has gone up and the Windows systems have proven to be powerful and stable. I just wanted to share my experience form a corporate user’s point of view as we run in to different issues than most home users. |
