What Virus Protection program do you use?

I just wanted to see what program my fellow 8thcivic members are using to protect their computers from those stupid virus' out there. I just recently downloaded AVG 8.0 after my Mcafee trial expired.

McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.5i

I'm in charge of our McAfee server at work so I get it for free.

Trend Micro

I've used a few virus scanners in my lifetime and this is the best I've ever used.

Micro$oft Forefront Client Security. Not complaining for three reasons:

1. So far, no infections yet.
2. Small footprint - Doesn't bog down your multi-core PC to that of a Pentium III.
3. Free (deployed at work and used it at home as well)

I like avast! because we have Trend Micro at work and it's buns; so I have to use avast! to clean what Trend couldn't.

I use none. I am an IT tech and haven't had a virus in at least 6 years. I use the computer at home for the same stuff you all do: porn, illegal downloading, porn, 8thcivic, porn etc..

I feel that anti-virus programs are great for n00bs and people who like to claim their 2 free ipod nanos by clicking advertisements.

I have to ask this though...do you all realize that if companies are still paying for these pop up ads....then someone, somewhere, thinks its a good idea to click them. They are actually making money off of these ads. That means there are plenty of morons out there.

I'm not saying anti-virus is bad...just not needed if you know what you are doing.

I'd have to say this post fits my thoughts exactly, (even the IT part) maybe with slightly more porn though. But yeah well put and very true, but don't forget without those newbs clicking those ipod links we would be out of a job.

No virus scan here either (also in IT), and haven't had a virus since the early 90s. Most infections and spyware on computers are there as the result of a bad choice of the one operating said computer. Common Sense > Virus Scan.

I use Avast (IT here too lol). Don't think I've had a virus since 2002, but I keep it on just for shits and giggles. My system has plenty of resources available so why not?

If I may add that I'm keeping the AV installed for insurance. Got tons of irreplaceable documents/pics on my PC. Not only that, I share my PC with the wife and a kid, so using an AV is a step in the right direction.

Oh yeah, also in IT (Cisco engineer), and the last time I had a virus was in the 1990s, when my brother inserted an infected floppy of Wing Commander. LOL

Eh if data integrity is the issue it would be more productive to set up a system for backups rather than AV. What if your drive were to fail? Far more common in my experience than virus infections.

I'm in the IT field as well, I really only use it for virus scanning. And I use Zone Alarm

Oh I do have a backup. But having to actually use it to recover is not my cup of tea. Prevention is still the best approach, IMHO.

Another IT guy here. Haven't used antivirus software since I got my first computer in the 90's. If I'm doing something risky that may result in getting a virus I used to use a spare computer but now I use a virtual machine.

I have to have Antivirus now to use VPN to get into work but I even have that whole setup on a virtual machine since I don't want to deal with all the work crap on my personal install of Windows.
