Quick question for you. After taking the spring compressors off of the factory springs how much recoil is there? Is it absolutely necesary to use compressors?

You'll need the spring compressors to remove the stock springs. Once the spring is removed from the strut you just loosen the compressors evenly to unload the tension in the spring. On my 98 Civic I had to compress the springs a good 3" to take all of the tension off.

Without them when you take the top nut off of the strut, the nut and mount will fly across the room - hopefully NOT taking any part of you with them.

Be safe - use the compressors.

Here's a comparison of the 98 Civic front spring versus the Neuspeed spring we installed. I didn't need to use the spring compressors on the new ones, but I had to push down on the top mount and have someone else start the nut. BTW, those were 1.75" lowering springs.

Yea.. I know some cars have alot of tension on the stock springs where as others do not and you can get away with using manual force when taking the thing off but it's best not to try I guess :)

Im assuming the DX,LX and EX are the exact same.

I just picked up some Tein S-Techs for my LX. Very excited to get them in.

How much do the Tein S-Tech Springs go for? I'm thinking of doing the same mild drop with my LX.

Yes!! Cut the bumpstop. My friend found out the hard way that if you don't your ride wll not be smooth at all. When we installed mine we cut them and this thing is running nice. I can't wait now for my sway bars to come in. BTW, I have the Eibach Sportlines too.. If you need any pics or anything let me know..

I took off about 3/4 of an inch.. Just to the bottom of the first "bump" in it.

The 19mm Hex nuts that clamp the damper to the knuckle need to be replaced and cannot be reused. They are clinch nuts, they will not have the same locking torque the second time they are used.

ok i own an si, but im acually doing this on a 04 cavalier right now for a friend, and instead of the hex bolt on top it looks like this:

It's smaller than 1/4" wrench, do they have any special tools besides a wrench i can use for this?

I'm just butting in on this thread:

I'm not familiar with that drawing . Did you make that or did it come from somewhere?

Also, is the bolt smaller than a 1/4" but larger than a 3/16"? If so then it's probably Metric, not S.A.E.

so the bumpstop will keep bumping if you don't trim it down?

do you need to use a spring compressor in removing the rear springs? (for safety reasons) or just slide it out? cuz i think that thing is not bolted not like the usual springs and shocks..

It's not bolted at all. All you need to do is remove the brake line bracket, the sway bar endlink, the lower damper bolt, and the upper control arm bolt. Then ya just kick the control arm down and pull the spring out.

don't you need a rear camber kit to keep your tires from wearing out unevenly?

It's reccommended but not neccessary if your camber is not off by alot. I chose to not go with one until aftermarket shocks are avaliable.
