From what I understand from conversations with component manufactures, it's basically a CYA thing. Cover your ass. The stampings have already been ISO tested and crash certified. Since the strut is a piece of the suspension and not just a dampening device (the Mac strut IS the upper control arm), if it were to fail at any speed could turn into a nasty corporation ending lawsuit. If you "lease"/buy the stampings, you are basically buying the struts and modifying them for their own use (painting and re-packaging) so they do not require re-certification. If you developed your own for "street use" is required by DOT to have them certified and tested. If you specify a "not intended for street use" label, it stil requires testing, but if it fails, the consumer is SOL if it failed on the street. Most race parts are tested at way higher standards than DOT but manufactures do NOT want to go through the ahslle or red taoe to get the DOT approvals. I can't really say I blame them ater seeing how long or a process it is.

Very eye-opening. It's a nice, albeit grammatically-challenged, post. hehe.

My understanding is that Koni is going with full replacements. I can get in touch with CRX_Lee if we need more info, but I think some other members have already confirmed it. IMO, simple inserts would have been available by now.

In that link, it even says koni is going with inserts on the third post down.

Mattsbobo, you were the one making a gross exgeration based on your inability compare suspensions, so Honda93 countered with a gross experation of his own. You know, fight fire with fire. I thought guys were supposed to make fun of each other, it helps thicken the skin. In other words, lighten up. "If you take life to seriously, you'll never get out alive."
This is exactly how I took it.

I write like I think...Short detailed thoughts strung together by a shoestring sputtered out as fast as I can type them so I don't forget anything.

Sorry if it was tough to read. It was tough enough to write..You should see me text, it's downright painfull!!
