brake problem

Hi guys:

recently when I brake from 60km/hr to 0km/hr (stop), when it approaches to near 0km/hr, I can feel the car vibrated and shaked suddenly.

This happens almost everytime when I brake.

is it normal cuz my milage is just 1800km ?

Sounds like ABS to me. This vibration you feel in the pedal is perfectly normal, and in fact, will help you stop in a shorter distance than you could without them. I've noticed the ABS kicks in a lot more in my Civic than any other previous car I've had with ABS... a little weird at first, but you get used to it.

Here's an article that describes it in detail for you.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure its not the vibartion of ABS, i've experienced with ABS quite few times before with my old 3-series.

the type of vibration is like whole car vibrates (sth like immeditate 2nd gear to 1st gear vibration)

I drove my fd's 06 civic coupe, didn't hav any vibration when approach stop.

It could be one of two things. Does the car pull to one side right before it comes to a complete stop? If so it could be a frozen caliper. Most likely it seems like a warped rotor. They vibrate like a b**ch. I would have the trueness checked at a brake shop. If it is warped they can cut the rotors for you.

Seems strange you'd already need a caliper overhaul (replacing the seals and what not). Generally it takes sometime before that occurs. What happens is (expecially in the winter time) the salt and what not on the roads corrode your seals and gunk gets inside causing your calipers to stay in a position where their constantly rubbing on the rotor. Having that happen for an extended period of time would cause the rotor to eventually wear down and have grooves and undulations on it (rotor's don't actually warp, but it's a common term to explain what the rotor would look like).

I do believe however that if it was a sticky caliper or a "warped" rotor then you would have experienced A LOT of squeeking before hand. Also the car would more like kind of chug when your put your foot on the brake and you'd have quite a bit of pedal pulsation. If there was a considerable amount of squeeking and you never did anything about it then i'd say your caliper froze causing your rotor to become very distorted.

Does your car also vibrate when you start up again? Or is it ONLY when you are braking? If it's both then you're looking at probably tires being out of round or a bad alignment.
