Sportline Question - Help

I am installing my springs and want to know who installed the new crush sleeves and how easy it was? I believe I have a drill is that all I need to remove the old ones and be able to put the new ones in?

Also do you trim the bottom of the bump stop?

-Jeff

Okay, so did you guys trim your bump stops in the front? I'm going to do both.

Did anybody install the crush sleeves? I want to do the install correctly and not have to correct any errors.

The crush sleve is the little sleeve on the strut with the pin through it ortiv. The sportlines came with new sleeves.

the issue your having is the fact that your not on coilovers, rather stock struts, which dont do well when compressed that much. your better off bottoming out on your bumpstops than your shock valves.

or cutting the bump stops and still don't bottom out the stock shock valves either. You can cut your bump stops and still able to compress the shock more.....been there tried it and it rides a lot better

Cut the rears, and used the new sleeves. Was a cinch, just follow the instructions. Oh yeah, the ride is fine no issues

Cut em

I installed mine and cut the rears and installed the new sleeve. Its easy just follow the directions that came in the kit. You only need to drill partially through the stock sleeve and it will come right off. Dont drill to far or you'll damage the shaft. Take it slow and you'll have no issues. Definantly worth the little extra time since youre doing the job you might as well do it right.

rides better compared to what if i may ask? you only tried it one way, so your making a prediction. airportguy72 is on his second set of shocks with his sportlines. the factory struts suck and will go out in a fairly short time regardless.

i wouldnt call sportlines and stock struts "doing the job right" jmo, but that 3/8" that your supposed to remove will not, and i assure you, will not have a bearing on the final drop or handling characteristics.

For those of us that cant afford coilovers or to replace the struts right away, its as close to doing the job right as it gets. Take it easy, didnt mean to offend your infinent knowledge. Just trying to answer his question. In the instructions that came with my kit it said to trim 40mm off the bump stops which I believe is just over 1.5 inches not 3/8".

i see what your saying, and i loved the sportlines when i had em, im just saying that if you dont cut the rears your not going to notice any difference in handling characteristics. ive got a buddy who cut his, and mine werent cut. he wanted to try and find a difference as well as my self. our cars sat equally as low, and drove the same, my rear did not bottom out any more than his.

So I didnt get any instructions... so I just recetly found out bout cutting the bump stop... also am riding on HFP shocks, not OEM which are 1inch lower... The back is not the issues at all... its the front and only on big dips....

So does who have the instruction an could PM them to me...

Same.

Eibach recommended it, and they know far more about suspension than I do, so who am I to argue?

It was really easy, took maybe 10 minutes.

Cut 40mm off the bottom of the front bumpstops, that's it.

riding on skunk2's and they came with no instructions.. didn't cut the bumpstops and made no modifacations.. rides great.. when asked about the bumpstops i had a friend rolling on progress with stock bumpstops for almost a year and had no problems with struts leaking.. he thinks it's better to keep the bump stops in to prevent over compression on big bumps/dips and thinks thats why they lasted longer...had mine lowered for over 3 months and no issues.. bottomed out once on a huge dip and heard the bumpstops knock but still ok...
