Rusting Rotors

My Rotors on my Si are rusting around the edges. It's very minor, but very anoyying. I wanted to ask for some opinions on this, because it's a grey area for me. And if I do replace them, I was wonder what everyone suggest to replace them with. I'll post some pictures when I get home.

I'll be getting some Brembo's for Christmas. My bro has them on his SE-R Spec V and they stop without breaking a sweat. Haven't checked if any are out, but I know they will be by the time Christmas is here.

Do you have any pictures? Cause there are some rotors out there that look pretty sweet.

Also I want to clarify that mine are only rusting around the edges and on the inside of the disc where the pads don't rub.

Unfortunately, it happens. Go out and do some hard braking, hopefully this should eliminate most of the rust, but I can't attest to whether the pads make enough (read: any) contact with the outside of the rotor to scrub them clean. Another thing you can try it to use some spray on brake cleaner and go out to do your hard braking. This can give slight improvement in braking feel and stopping distance in more severe cases.

It can take less than a day for visible rust to appear on my car or bike's rotors if it's humid. Certainly not pretty.

EDIT:

My bike's rotors are cross drilled and the rust still appears. Brembo brakes would look absolutely sick, but I highly doubt you need any more braking on the street than the Si offers you. I do like the clicking sound they make while you are braking quite a bit. It's really noticable on my bike. I found the best bang for your buck brake upgrade (on my bike anyways) was to get steel braided brake lines, although the difference visually is negligible at best. Honestly, I'd save my money and wait till my rotors or pads were toast or needed maintenance before replacing them, there is probably nothing wrong with them.

MY EX is only 2 weeks old and there is rust around the edges of the rotors. It's unfinished metal and it happens. due to humidity or moisture in the air. It's not really that big of a deal.

They're already available. If you do a search, someone posted them here awhile back. I believe it's just for the fronts.

this happens to almost every oem rotor - no big deal. drive a little and watch it disappear.

he's not talking about rust on the braking surface people.....he's talking about the outer edges of the rotor.

Just tape off the braking surface of the rotor and spray black paint on the parts that get rusty. otherwise you'll just have to live with it.

But are usually weaker rotors though UNLESS they are cast/forged WITH the drill holes and slots in them.. The "strongest" rotor is just a blank rotor compared to alot of rotors people buy because the rotors are cast/forged THEN are drilled. This causes weakness around the drilled areas since they were added AFTER the rotor was made. Yeah, slotted and drilled look cool but performance over looks.

touche'.

I've heard the same resolution, never tried it myself. I'd heard that it was Brembo that was using some zinc-based coating on their rotors to prevent the rust buildup - but that info is a couple years aged. I also remember hearing that the people who bought them noticed it wore off in time and the rust reappeared.

ughhhh yah... they sure do a great job stopping but is it worth the cost on a daily driven car.. not sure.. I've had OEM brake jobs done on a G35 and it cost $500 for just the pads... along with rotors it was around 2k.
