Brakes- USDM vs JDM

Curious to know if anyone here knows whether or not the brakes on the US Spec Civic are the same as the Jap Spec Civic. ( 2.0L )
I understand that the cars are not identical, different chassis codes and all, but just like most Hondas, some parts are the same. ie: TSX (CL9) and JDM Accord (CL7).

I ask cause Mugen has a set of rotors out for the 2.0 Civic in Japan, and if the brakes are the same, I guess it makes them available for the Si as well.

Thanks in advance for any input.

IIRC, the Civic's are relatively (using this term lightly) the same, despite the differing chassis codes, which should be obvious anway. However, if you actually take a look at both cars, you'll see they're relatively the same. The only MAJOR differences aesthetically are the inner rear taillights, headlights and grill/bumper (and obviously, the right-hand drive). I see no reason as to why the brakes would be different. I may be able to find out a definite yes or no for you, but I'm not sure.

Thanks, I'd appreciate the info.
It's easier to find aftermarket products looking at the JDM counterpart. Takes more time, but easier. :)

After a bit more research, I have found an easier way to get what I need.

The rotors on the 06 Si are the same as the following:

Fronts-- same as the 02-current RSX-S.
Rear-- same as the 97-01 Prelude Base/ SH model.

Now I just got to verify that the pad size is the same. I would hope it is, but need to find part numbers first to verify. :)

Which is why it would be cheaper to just buy Brembos

You sure the front rotors are the same? I know the calipers are the same, but I didn't think the front rotors were. I know though, that the rears are the same as the 'Ludes.

The pads are the same size as the S2000, not the RSX. I'd say if you're going to swap brakes, wouldn't it make more sense to swap them from a USDM Civic Si instead of a JDM Civic (or try to go Mugen, for that matter)? The Si's brakes are perfect for the street/strip, especially when combined with upgraded pads. Plus, you'd still be using OEM parts.

You'll also want the Si's larger wheel bearings, as well.

My intent is to get a set of OEM replacement rotors, either from Mugen, or Project Mu. I'll match those up with some new lines and a set of Endless Vita Nouva pads.
I ran a similar set-up on my TSX, and loved the results.

Well my opinion i would buy the Project Mu X-drilled/slotted rotors and then match it up with Mugen SS lines and Hawk HP+ and also i higher temp brake fluid like Motul 5.1..
thats what i had on my 7thgen and the brakes were &%()^ amazing.

I had Brembo OE rotors and Hawk HP+ on my 7th gen EX coupe. Brakes were awesome! I have the same setup on my GSR now.

Anyway a few people in other forums said the LX/EX front rotors (and EX rear rotors) are the same as the '94-01 Integra but you can never tell about the pads. I doubt the SI pads are the same as LX/EX. The Si weighs more so it should have larger rotors and/or bigger calipers and pads. I hope Hawk comes out with some pads for our Civics soon. I 'll probably get the HPS pads cause the HP+ tend to squeal and the dust is too excessive. I loved the HP+ but I 'll give the HPS a try this time around.

Check edmunds.com they have a long term test on the SI and at 7500 miles during some mild track racing they fried the brakes. That's why I am looking at a brake upgrade.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I'd like to upgrade brakes but not spending $2300 for a front only brembo kit. I wanna do front and rear. I figured the JDM DC5-R would have better brakes? Maybe USDM TSX brakes?

Yes I can shed some light for you. No need to spend big bucks $$ on a bigger brake kit. Just wait a few months until aftermarket pads are out for our cars. Getting some Hawk or Cobalt Friction pads will make a world of difference in your braking distances. Night and day. Brembo will have rotors out for LX/EX soon but you don't have to wait for new rotors if aftermarket pads are out. Brembo had the rotors for my '01 EX available a few months after I bought the car which was about a year after the 7th gen had been introduced. I put 90k mi. on that set of Brembos and Hawk HP+ (90% highway driving though) and stumped on them every chance I got because I loved how those pads stopped the car. It stopped better than my GSR that had Axxis Ultimate pads on.

So there 's no need to get heavier rotors and calipers which will hurt your acceleration and your pocket. All you need is OEM size Brembos (or Brembo blanks as they 're called by many) for about $30 ea., and some good aftermarket pads, $65-80/pair. Guaranteed 10-15ft shorter stopping distances from 60mph depending on which pad you go with.

What about someting like a powerslot big brake upgrdae they are reasonable at around $500 for the rear to upgrade to 12" rotors with the stock caliper...

The powerslot big brake kit is only for the rear? Your front brakes do most of the stopping.

Anyway upgrading the rotors and keeping the stock calipers doesn't make much sense. It will not improve braking much if any. You 're still using the same surface on the rotor. If you 're going to go with bigger rotors you need to upgrade to bigger calipers as well, to take advantage of the larger rotor surface. You would just be adding unsprung weight without any other benefits.
