Suspension Testing
I have arranged for a couple local guys that have these different setups to allow for testing of each setup...
1. Skunk2 Pro-c's-have 2. K-sports 3. Teins ss 4. Koni/Redshift Coilovers-have 5. HFP-have This will be most likley done on an AUTOX course. We will be using the same tires for each setup. We hace some National level Autoxers to test out the different suspension and give their own opinions on each. THink Magazine article just for FG suspensions ![]() If there is somthing you would like to see done or tested lemme know I will try to include it as this won't be for a couple of weeks.. If you have a setup listed and I don't have a car for it already...PM me we can use you in the testing...Northern NJ

Cool idea Greg
A baseline run on a Totaly OE car with the "Test" tires would be beneficial To be fair not only do you have to run the same tires/rims but you also should have the same amount of drop, and alignment settings for each car (Toe and Camber) to have a true test of each C/O setup Plus take pyrometer readings of the tires and track surface after each run, to weed out any inconsistancies caused by tire/track temps What also would be cool would be to drop in a GPS based datalogger to plot each cars G's etc at all points in the course. But I am sure you have allready thought of all that ![]() Drop me a line when you get closer to setting a date for this ... I will see if I can come down and assist if it does not conflict with my Race-crew schedule (and will see If I can steal a MSD Racepack G2X Data Logger) Moose Last edited by Moose; 03-14-2008 at 07:15 AM. |

Our plan was to test with the ultra sticky Bridgestone RE-01R street tires that Bridgestone has already given us. They are 225 width and on stock sized (but aftermarket) wheels. So, we have that as a control. The other 2 controls are driver and suspension alignment, to which we also plan to pay close attention.... there will be several drivers there (all drivers will drive all cars but I'm assuming Greg and I will be the only control driver's for timing).... and we need to make sure that everyone aligns their car appropriately before we arrive so we don't waste time while we are there.
It will be interesting to see everyone's times and everyone overall feel for each suspension. We'll have to come armed with a couple good sprayers and pyrometer to keep the tires as cool as we can because tire heat has alot to do with performance, and we'll need to keep them consistent. Chris |

Finally.. something concrete that will show what setups for our car handle well and what doesn't.
I suggest.. Buddy Club N1s (please) Tein Flex (would be nice) Megan (if you guys can find someone) Sportlines(or S-tech)/tokico blues (would be really interesting) I can't wait until the results are in. Last edited by friedk; 03-14-2008 at 09:37 AM. |

Awesome guys. RE01Rs are going to be my next autocross tire purchase (unless those 140 Kumhos come out and are well reviewed). I'm also closely watching developments on the suspension front, with the intention of swapping to coilovers this summer or fall (if I don't win the lottery and buy a 1-series).

It's going to be obvious what car your in probably. Doing it blind would take more time that we probably have. No test is perfect if done within time and budget constraints, but we'll do our best. I've driven a TON of different setups over the years and have a good feel for race and road setups. Naturally I'll probably like our setup because it will be setup for what I like. But that's why we'll have others doing "real world" driving in different car so we can see "what they think about their road manners" of each car.

i would take out Tein ss and put in Tein Flex instead. Lets face it, everybody knows ss is not for track. Then why would u test the ss in a track environment when everybody know it's gonna SUCK?
But Flex is supposedly be more track prepped. Just a suggestion. I would love to see how flex would compare to other suspension in a autox/track situation. |
