if they warped under normal usage i don't see why they wouldn't be covered... if you tracked your car or something then they might say they were abused and you'll have to pay for it yourself. If thats the case, its a good excuse to upgrade to some rotora slotted rotors

thanks for the info. it has about 9400 miles on it. i had the car for less than a year and just noticed it this week while on the freeway. it's slight but noticable to me cuz i'm a little anal. i'm worried if i bring it in, they wouldn't catch it or even worst blame on my negligence. i don't drive my car hard and only once had the ABS been activated.
any of you had experience with the service bulletin about the car pulling left or right? i want to bring it in for an alignment but worried they would next fix it and blame it on me again. my car started pulling left much more after i rotated the tires. |

Like blues unit said ... "Generally" brakes are not covered unless there is a failure since they are a wear item. HOWEVER they may cover you under "goodwill" terms.
BUT what you are experiencing may not be a warped rotor ....it may be a uneven transfer layer. What happens when you use your brakes lightly all the time (daily driving) with a few panic stops, the rotors build up a un-even transfer layer of pad material on the surface. This causes a bit of shake under normal braking that feels like a warped rotor. The best way to test / fix this, is to find a quiet industrial / back street and get the car up to a good speed and then apply the brakes HARD, almost to the point where the ABS is kicking in. Do this a couple of times and then drive for a bit to allow the brakes to cool down. This is a similar process to bedding in the brakes. What you are doing is scrubbing off the old layer of pad material and laying down a new even layer on the rotors. 80% of the time this fixes the "warped" issue. With my old Mazda-3 on OE pads I had to do this monthly, as the pads sucked and always caused the car to shake under braking when I was city/daily driving regularilly. A couple of sprited drives and braking sessions and the car back to normal. Moose Last edited by Moose; 02-16-2008 at 02:01 PM. |

How big are your balls ![]() I used to find a 60 KM/H zone in an quiet industrial park and run up to about 80-90KM/H and then go for it. If you are on a quiet hwy outside the city with a 80KM limit then I figure you can safely start at 100 KM/H assuming no traffic etc. The road condidtions will dictate the relative safety of your speeds Moose |
