Is better handling a quantitative thing and more responsive qualitative?

I think it's both. If you have a killer time-attack car but it's always one notch away from a nasty spin-out when pushed then I dunno if I'd consider that to be great handling. So I consider to be a combo of feel and quantitative (skidpad, track time, etc) improvement.

i have a strange deep-seated appreciation for high performance cars that demand your every nanosecond of concentration to really bring out the beast that they are, and if you don't they'll turn around and bite your head off.....

almost makes me respect the car for it being so demanding...

As for the lowering spring argument. I just remembered my experience. I put eibach pro kit on a gsr along with koni reds. Once the car got past the soft part of the spring and on to the hard part, the car felt more responsive and my on ramp speeds did go up when compaired to stock. I was still disapointed with them because I wanted even better handling. (That seems to be a running theam in my car life)
