My dad had a BMW 540i with those really nice 5-spoke M rims and bent one on a pothole. He took the busted tire and cut it and the rim and turned it into a clock. It's pretty cool-looking too.

If you have aftermarket rims and suspension can you still use a big break kits? or r u better off just using aftermarket pads and rotors?

-Suspension has no effect on what BBK you can use ..rim choice does

-It all depends if the particular rims size, design, and offset will work with the Specific BBK you choose ... EACH different kit has different measurements and requirements for rim fitment. The "Good" ones provide a template you can cut-out and "test-fit" with your rims to see if they will fit without hitting the hub or spokes.

A BBK that fits on with a particular 17" rim may not work with another 17" rim

So - just upgraded pads / rotors would be safest ... unless you want to reasearch if the particular kit you are interested in works with the particular rims you have.

do you know if 16'' wheels will fit on a Si

I have a EX and what to buy the HFP brakes, I have 17'' wheels for sumer but I go back to 16'' stock in the winter. I think that I'm going to have to get Si calipers installed also.

Yup. I put the RSX 02-04 wheels on my car once. A lot of people in snow country do it too.

I have been looking at this thread since i have been here but have been holding back but i couldnt help myself any longer....dont waste your money on buying high dollar rotors, if you go to autozone and buy rotors for your car, you will get the exact same rotor as if your were to order brembo.
KoniMan,

Well I do not know about Autozone Rotor's in particular ... but I have seen some pretty crappy "no-name", re-badged, and store brand rotors in my time ... and I have seen these trashed pretty quickly at the track.

I would not be surprised that a large persentage of the rotors are made in the same foundry in China/Taiwan/?? ...I do know that the Brembo's/Zimmerman and related rotors I buy are still made in Germany.

For street driving ... use what ever you like, you are not likely to damage stress it to much.

I can get OE replacement Brembo (Plain not drilled/slotted etc) for less than Honda /Acura OE and not much more than what I pay for Store Brand rotor's

For something that is as important as Brakes ...I will personally NOT scrimp or risk it.

As for the other Big dollar rotors from other manufacturers, I agree they are a waste of money in general. It is only at the highest levels (Pro Race) that a Big $$$ rotor like a full floating multi-piece is required.

My point is that one should use a good quality rotor ... I singled out Brembo in particular as it what I can source easily in Canada ... but there are other brands that are also of similar quality ...

I need some help in making a decision for rear brake pads. I took my s.I in for service and they told me I should replace my rear brake pads soon. So I jus wanted some advice whether I should use honda rear brake pads or some othas that any1 can reccomend for me. Much help would be appreciated. I think honda wants 2 charge me 280 to install and put in new rear pads along with resurfacing the rotors.

If you are still using your OE front pads then use OE rears (Matched compounds) ... however if you have allready upgraded the fronts, then you have a varirty of options, as listed at the top of teh forst page

.

Yea i had to get the front pads, i wore the **** out of those pads, so i guess i will buy the rear pads from honda and install them. i know the service manager there was telling me not to change the pads to aftermarket because they can cause complications and all that.

Thanks to the OP. Great info. I am looking at the HFP brake kit but not sure if it is worth it. I am going to run stainless steel brake lines 1st... To be honest I think they will look killer with black calipers...

Hey Moose,

Anything comparable to the Brembo rotors for 2006 Civic LX? Having a hard time finding the Brembos. I just want the plain, not slotted or drilled.

Thanks!!

The Non Si SI civics (except Hybrid) use the same Front Rotors as the RSX Base/Premium

So they should be dead easy to find ... Try having a look at your local / Online retailers for RSX fitment ... you may find them easier that way

Tirerack will have stock in the 1st week of May

Brakes Products for Honda Civic LX Coupe 2006

I can personally only reccomend Brembo as I have not used anything else.

Some People have used "AutoZone" Brand Rotors successfully Like "koniman" ... but I have not ... so no direct reccomendation

hey Moose, great job on putting this info together.
i am in need of replacing my breaks and reading this gave a me a good idea of what i need to purchase, but wanted to make sure if its right before i go off and get it
i want to go with the axxis ULT in the front and rear and will be changing the brake fluid to Motul rbf600, can someone tell me if i will need to resurface the rotors or if new rotors will be needed. i dont do any autox, just looking for a good break upgrade. with that said would it be better for me to just buy the s2000 pads?? will the Axxix be overkill if i dont autox??
please pardon the dumb questions.. this will be the first time i do my own breaks and i'm kinda nervous.. haha
