Control Arm problem on my 06 Civic EX
I took my coupe in last week for the regular tire/oil change. I realized when I got the car back that the tires were SO loud. I called the dealership and asked if I had bad tires and if so, why didn't they tell me. They said the tires were fine and acted as if I was making everything up. Well I had an appointment to get a recall fixed this week so I brought it to their attention then. Apparently, my car has a control arm problem. The service manager said he had about 15 Civics with this same problem. With the problem it is causing my tires to wear poorly. Honda is working on a recall and he mentioned new tires as part of the recall. Anyone else have a similar issue?

Wow... Just asked my mom if she has seen any of these notices in the mail and guess what she almost threw away.
I wonder how many more were thrown away... Looks like I'll be at Honda tomorrow or here shortly all day. Anyone know how long it takes for these guy's to fix it? I know my dealer is pretty incompetent and unknowledgeable... |

Found it...I bet this is the fix Honda will be doing
"* New rear upper arm that decreases the amount of rear camber from -1.5* to -0.75*. This was all done because of the camber change that was necessary to prevent abnormal tire wear (especially prevalent on Canadian market cars). The camber change caused less rear grip, so the engineers had to soften the rear... Perfect example of Honda's insurance lawyers defeating the engineers I suppose. However, my contact has driven both back to back and said that while the new setup is definitely more conservative, its not horrible. He bets that most drivers would not be able to pickup the difference. BTW, I still don't know if the new rear upper arm has a unique part number or if it will use the existing number. Eh, thats a bit of a difference.. Hopefully their isn't that much of a difference.
So when you said they had to soften the rear to compensate, Im taking you mean the shocks/springs. I doubt they will be changing those too during the fix. Hmm. All day huh... What other recalls are there? Might as well get all these done at once then... |

Do you know if Honda is any closer to a TSB or having parts availability for the updated control arms? Do you know if the TSB involves changing the spring rates? I am up here in Canada with a 2007 Acura CSX and the rear tires have been ruined in about 8,000 miles. I wonder why the abnormal tire wear is more “prevalent on Canadian market cars”. Anyhow, I will defer the installation of winter tires until I get the camber sorted out. Hopefully it isn’t too far in the future. Jeff |

If you have abnormal tire wear to the point its making noise you need to get it fixed ASAP. Your dealer should know what to do to. Have them contact tech line if they don't. I believe they are changing to the 08' upper arm to fix the wear issue.
