i used to work at the dealership, which i'm sure is why they did it under warranty.

i had the brakes glowing so many times that i was sure i'd seized a caliper. when i came in to pick the car up i asked the service writer what the problem was. he rolled his eyes at me "are you really asking me that? it's YOU. YOU'RE the problem!"

seriously what they said, there is nothing wrong with our oem brake pads unless you drive like a Le Mans driver with flaming brakes.

oh, absolutely they are fine for normal driving. i was being a smartass.

i'll tell you what, though, two good stabs from >100 to <40 and the brakes fade so much that ABS won't even activate. the corolla i traded in for this could handle 4 or 5 stabs like that before it'd fade. that was on OEM pads as well.

when i have the choice i put on porterfield R4S pads and powerslot rotors. i've had them on every car i've owned that isn't under warranty, and i'll say: for the price, i haven't found a better pad!

i'll probably burn through one more set of pads while under warranty. after that, i'll start with porterfields, if they don't fit my fancy, hawks are definitely on the list.

i'm of the firm belief that there is no 'one pad fits all' solution to braking and each car and driver takes to a set of pads differently.

My dealer just called me and told me my brakes are worn at 17,503 miles. I was like wha? I told them not to do it and I'll take it to a local gas station to have them do it. They wanted $300 to do it.
