Tanabe Sustec Pro Five Released!!!!
I did a quick search and did not find a thread in regards to this. I was checking the Tanabe website to see if any new products were released. To my surprised they finally released their Sustec Pro Five coilovers, which have been available in Japan for over a year now. The reason I was a little excited is because the Sustec Seven coilovers, which are TEAS compatible, are not available for the new Sis. That meant that for anyone looking for a Coilover system that had the option of an Electronic Dampening control, you basically had to get the Tein Coilovers, which were EDFC compatible.
Now, Tein products are good, but Tanabe's coilovers are also very good. I called Tanabe over a year ago asking if they were ever planning to release a Sustec series coilovers for the new Si. They told me that if they did, it would be the Sustec Five series. Well, after checking their website the Sustec Five is not compatible with the new Si. After calling them today one of their reps told me that, as of now, there are no R&D plans currently to develop the Sustec Five coilovers for the new Si. It could be that maybe they dont see a market for the Five with the current Civic owners? Here is the link: http://www.tanabe-usa.com/coilovers/five.asp I personally would love them to make the Sustec Five compatible with the current Si. I feel that if all the memebers ineterested would email Tanabe with inquiries about the Five for the Si and new Civic in general, maybe that would increase their interest in developing the Sustec Five for the new Civic. Your opinion would be appreciated. |

Looks like a good competitor for the TEIN coilovers. I like their TEAS system better (equivilant to tein's EDFC) because it will automatically adjust for certain speeds.
I have come to recent terms though lately that most pre-built coilovers are very limited in their performance and adjustability. Most coilovers only let you adjust rebound settings instead of rebound and compression. Since you can only adjust 1 of the 2, your are limited in terms of how you can fine tune your suspension. |

The adjustable Teins on the market at the moment adjust both compression (bump) and rebound at the same time on the same knob. It increases both or decreases both. So, when you want more rebound to help resist weight transfer in a corner, you also have to increase compression which will make the car more upset over mid corner bumps. So, if you never plan to do anything competitive, those would be just fine for the streets and a little more fun at the expense of ride quality.
