Before I buy the HFP suspension.......

I have a question. My plan is to buy the HFP suspension , then a little while down the line throw some ground control springs on it. I have heard that the ground control springs are height adjustable, also that you can pick your own spring rate.

So my question is, if I pair the ground control springs with the HFP shocks, will the shocks blow? My thoughts were since I only want 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower than the HFP kit, and I can pick a higher spring rate to compensate for the shorter springs, my shocks should be cool right? I am not to familiar with suspention as you might be able to tell, I am hoping this will work. My last car I just put springs on, and the shocks went to hell. Any thougts?

Its always best to pair struts and springs that are made to be used together, but not too sure about that combination.

For $600ish (hfp suspension) + $200 (springs).. might as well get aftermarket coilovers: Function/Form Type II, Tein Basics for that amount of money.

price does not equal coilovers being a better solution

read around a bit more on this forum and you'll see what i'm talking about...

or just do a search for posts by "highrev1" or "sirbelch" - (top two guys that come to mind that know what they're talking about)

...you could even check the sticky's

Yea I have just heard bad things about pre built coil-overs. I was planning on going with the function/form, or the buddy club. I will more than likely go for the function/form, I have heard good things about them. I just thought of this the other night, and was wondering how effective it would be.

Well 2000civic, did you know that Ground Control makes custom springs? They can make you a spring that matches any damper. So, in theory, they could make you an adjustable spring that best matches the damper in the HFP suspension. However, I do not know how much that would cost. You would have to call them and ask. They are really friendly people and i'm sure that they would be more than willing to help you out. The damper in the HFP suspension is what really improves handling. I would also be willing to bet the the damper in the HFP suspension has a better shock dyno curve than that of a similarly priced damper that is in a coilover set up. So, i think that the HFP/GC set up would be better than a off the shelf coilover set up. But, If you can wait, one of the aftermarket damper companies (Koni, Tokico, etc) will make a better damper than the HFP suspension with adjustablity to boot. If you pair that damper with the GC springs, you will have an even better suspension than the HFP/GC spring combo or an off the shelf coilover system. But in the end, its up to you, and i'd say that the HFP/GC combo would be just fine and i'm sure you could sell the HFP springs to some one. However, I would still wait until Highrev1 gives his opinion.

Thank you for the responce. Yes I found out that they do make custom springs for dampers. That is what brought up my original thougt of pairing the two together. I would like to wait for aftermarket dampers, but to be honest, I am not really going to be autocrossing. It will simply be a set up for DD, and spirited driving. So I think the HFP damper will be good for me. I just want more of a drop than the HFP offers, so I would go for ground control. I figured if in the future I really get into autocrossing and this set up does not due I can always upgrade.

^^ You all so got to take in to account what your budget is. If aftermarket dampers and coilover springs is all you can afford, does it make sence to buy the HFP suspension, GC springs, AND then aftermarket dampers? Even if you just want a DD, you would get the same ride with better perfromance with aftermarket/coilover setup than you would with HFP dampers and GC coilovers. I'm about to buy my THIRD suspension setup because i didn't know what I wanted in the first place and my car is and will be a DD for the next 4-5 years. I'm just the kind of guy that want the best handling i can get with in my price range. I moved my some of my straight line performance budget to the twisty budget because i didn't get it right the frist time. If none of that makes any sense its beacause i've been drinking for the last 7 hours, its my saturday.
