Question Is the Tein SS really needed?

I was wondering if you guys can help me out? I was looking at upgrading my suspension, and I read alot of people have the Tein SS Kit. It does cost alot, but I guess it must be worth it. Is there another suspension kit that works as good, but maybe for a little less? Or should I just save for the Tein SS w/EDFC?

As far as something you could get off the shelf at the moment, nothing would really be better than that unless you want to spend more. However, if you are willing to wait, Koni is supposed to be coming out with and off the shelf damper called a Koin Yellow. They should retail for around 650-700 when they do finally get here. The Yellows are double adjustable, meaning that you can adjust both rebound and compression separatly from each other. ON the Tein SS, both rebound and compression are adjusted by the same knob which means that you can only increase or decrease both at the same time. That is not the best way to adjust your suspension for maximum performance. After that, you can pair those with Ground Control Spirngs that cost 400. The cool thing about Ground Control Springs are, YOU, the buyer can pick what ever spring rates you want. So if you think the 340/390 lbs/in f/r of the Tein SS is going to be too soft (I thought it was) you can get them a little stiffer or softer if you want. But as stated eariler, The Koni Yellows are not out yet, and you are going to have to wait for them if you want them. If you are just looking for a little more fun that stock with a set it and forget suspension, just get the HFP suspension kit. If you are willing to adjust, and re adjust your coilovers, to make them even at all four corners or you want your car lower in the summer or higher in the winter, then get the Tein SS. If you can wait and want to get the most out of your car, get the Yellow and GC springs.

I have had my tein SS's sitting at home for a few weeks now just waiting to put them on my car when i finally get a day off from work!

As mentioned above they certainly aren't the only option for our cars and as time passes by there are becoming more and more options but as of now it is certainly one of the more popular moderately priced one piece coilover setups as of now.

Megan Coilovers and Tein Basics are probably two other options that come to mind for a more inexpensive option ythat plenty of other people have been using on there cars.

Wow thanks for the info, what do you think about the Tein EDFC controller?

http://www.procivic.com/pages-produc...621/index.html

Is that worth getting as well? Any info is appreciated

What are the advantages of getting the SS over the basics?

sorry to hijack the thread, but does the EDFC really allow you to switch suspension settings on the fly? Like, can i set it to street/track/drag all thru the cabin? If so, this might be better deal than basics IMO

This is what I think I would go for. The next step up sounds like the Koni (when available) + Ground Control.

Koni is not gonna make double adjustables off the shelf? I must have miss understood.

Difference between Tein SS and Basic is the damper on the SS is adjustable where the damper on the Basic is not. This allows you to "tune" the ride of your car more to your tastes. I do believe that the Basic damper is set on the middle setting of the SS damper. They both have the same body and same springrate and same amout of ride height adjustment.

EDFC. Electronic Damping Force Control. This will only work the the Tein models above the Basic. So thats Tein SS, Flex, and the higher ones that aren't out yet for our cars. There is a different model EDFC for most of the coilover models. The EDFC will allow you to adjust the damping setting on the fly while in the car. Last i checked, you could save 3 pre programmed settings of you choice and of course make up your own as you go. Is it worth it? I have had Tein SS and now i have Tein Flex. It takes me 4 minutes to get out and adjust all 4 dampers to what ever new setting i want. So, are you willing to spend $400 to save 4 minutes? One thing that is for sure with the EDFC is the bling factor is high.

I dont have tien coilovers but I do have a set comparable to the tien ss in terms of adjust ability. Last time I adjusted my coilovers I decided I wanted to change on a whim so I pulled into a parking lot and was on my way in under 5 min the edfc is ridiculous. Trust me if you plan on getting some ss's get the coilovers first and you will quickly understand how edfc is a waste of money. Also my vote is on the koni set up as well, I got coilovers out of impatience but I do love them .

TEIN Basics are firmer than stock but not stiff or jarring. They offer ride height adjustment. SS have adjustable damping (how soft or firm the ride is) and adjustable ride height.

The basics are probably best suited to the street driver who doesn't hit the track or autocross with their car.

The SS allows for adjustment, but it's usefulness for a daily driver is negligible.

The Basics and the SS share the same spring rates, unlike the Flex which has rates that are considerably stiffer.

This sounds stupid, but how soft can the SS go? I ask this because, I want to track and DD with firmness, but need to drag the wife out for longer (+2 hours, back issues) on road trips.

Heheh, that sounded bad.

i can has lower?
iTrader: 12 / 100%
I went w/ basics, because they go just as low as the SS, but you cant change the dampening level. I'm happy with the level that they're set at though, so I'm glad I went w/ the basics :].

Heheh, that sounded bad.

Almost as soft as stock. I thought full stiff was fine for a DD but im weird like that. If you can afford the adjustability, i say get it. I like being able to change my car for a give situation. On loooonng trips, i can make full soft. For those fun trips through the moutains i can stiffen up the rear etc ...

Ya, well I live in florida, everything is flat, lol

I wanted to get the SS, but I am guessing the Basics would be good for me, since it is my DD.

Any other opinions would be great

Wait for koni yellows if you could. I wasn't man enough to go for that whole delayed gratification thing.

I will try and research the koni yellows, either I will wait for the konis if I like them or just buy the basics.

Do you think the Tein basics are better then the HFP kit?

Just wondering
