brake fade

I went to shannonville motorsports on Sunday and had a blast on the track.

However, my brakes turned into mush after 4 laps of 4k track. I would let them cool for 20 minutes and then try again.

The car brakes amazingly, with great feel - but they were heating up so bad. Smelled/looked like i was frying a cat on my discs.

So what can I do for a reasonable price to reduce this problem? I don't really want better brakes, I just want them to not heat up as fast.

better brakes. lol sorry but you would need new pads and rotors i think. You could go for a big brake kit and stand on those brakes all day.

^^^You really dont need all that. Get some higher temp pads, stainless steel brake lines, and a break fluid with a higher boiling point that the stock fluid, like a DOT 5.1. That should hold off the heat enough for you to have some fun without brake fade. But if you want brakes you can hammer all day, you got to get bigger rotors and bigger hats with bigger pads and a bigger master cylinder. (Brakes will break your bank (sorry couldn't resist))

This is a 12.2" wilwood kit that cracked the rotor no brakes are indestructable, especially on the track.

For good reason...people know that a "pre-built coilover" won't keep up with a seperate setup and have no facts to back that up even if they were to say it did. ANd we know the black art of suspension tuning. :)

I've only tracked my car once so far this year (been busy karting) BUT the time I did I used some HFP pads and I got very little fade.

When I say very little, I mean that I could tell the pads were heated up and needed a little extra force on the brake pedal, but they stayed pretty linear and I never thought I was going to die because I couldn't slow down. Also, no damage was done to my rotors. It is AMAZING the difference that a set of brake pads can do on a weekend track car. I doubt you will boil your fluid as it is so new, but it never hurts to have a higher boiling point fluid.
