Bump stop ? for Eibach Pro-Kit
I just got the Pro-Kit and I am going to attempt to install it tomorrow. Hopefully the auto gods will be on my side.
After looking over the instructions I noticed it says to "remove the stock rear shocks from the vehicle" and then it goes into this whole business about drilling out the pinch point in the crush sleeve to get to the bump stop and cut it down. I thought you only had to remove the front shocks and trim the bump stop on the fronts only. Do you have to cut bump stops on both the front and rear? The instructions don't even mention cutting the front shock's bump stops at all. Help? Also, is this really doable for someone who has not messed with springs before? I'm more worried about your safety now. Make sure you use a spring compressor man.
Are you using this? step by step lowering an si 06 They talk about cutting the bump stops in the thread. It's not that hard to do. Once you get into it you'll see how it fits together. But if you feel uncomfortable taking things off your car take it to the shop man. Edit: another good thread. do you really have to cut the bump stop when installing springs? Yep, I was going to use that thread to guide me. No where in there does he mention cutting the bump stops though. He definitely does not mention removing the rear shock. There seems to be a lot of debate about cutting the bump stops on here. I was going to cut mine. I figured I'd do the front since they seemed easy to get to. However, the Eibach instructions only mention cutting the rears. I am pretty sure I could handle it, but I just wanted to make sure that others had done the rear only with the Pro-Kit.
I am going to rent a spring compressor from AutoZone if I do it. I have a buddy who works at an auto shop who will put on all the springs and do an alignment for $175, so I may have to take him up on that. Saving money and getting in there myself is tempting too. Not sure if I want to tackle it or let him have at it. |

i didnt cut mine (bumpstops) and i dont have any issues on my pro kits (since feb 07). 175 is pretty good since it includes the alignment. just make sure you go back and get it done a week or two later once the springs have settled.

The install actually looks relatively simple. I've done intakes, interior mods and stuff like that. This doesn't look a lot more complicated. What I might do is just install it all, wait a week or two and have my buddy cut the bumpstops and do the algnment later. That might work.

i just installed my Eibach Sprotlines last night, and i cut my front and rear bumps stops like the instructions say. It was easy, for the rear struts, on the top there is a lil metal sleave with a yellow paint mark and a tiny divit on it, that is what u want to drill out and pull off, so that you can get to the pump stop!! and u should have gotten replacement sleaves in your box

You want to keep the suspension travel as close to stock, else you'd be getting worse performance if you're riding on the bump stops. Cutting the bump stop gives more suspension travel, and should generally be done when installing lowering springs.

I just installed my Eibach sportlines yesterday and I cut the bumpstops per the instructions... everything seems to be working just fine :) and i love the look of the car now
My buddy drives a VW Rabbit (nice car btw) and he just got some springs from VW... aparently VW has them made by Eibach which is cool and they even came with new bumpstops, so he can just swap his... no cutting necessary. Wish ours came like that. but w/e, cutting is easy ( i used a hacksaw )I have to agree that the suspension install is easy... this was my first time and i didnt run into any problems... just followed the service manual :) however for the front suspension, i recommend taking the windshield wipers off and pulling that plastic cowel piece off so you have complete access to those bolts... made my job much easier! Eric .:EDIT:. here is the link to my thread if you wanna see some pics during the install http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showt...53#post1094153 |
