Si shock is broken!

I have an EX sedan and i had just purchased a lightly used Si suspension (shocks and springs) and i had it installed on my car last friday. I drove with the music off just to see if there was any creaking or what not and i noticed the clunk many people have been talking about coming from the driver left side. Could it be caused by the Si suspension? Possibly... I also noticed an odd noise coming from the rear end.

As soon as i got home I decided to inspect the suspenion. The one in the front seemed fine, but the one in the rear was leaking!

Yup, the Si shock was broken. I'm currently getting my stock rear shocks put back on the car and I have a few questions:

1) How bad is it for me to drive with stock EX shocks with Si springs?
2) Do you recommend this setup on the long run?
3) We dont have Si sedans here in canada, only coupes, should i purchase new Si coupe shocks and have them installed with the Si sedan springs?
4) Do you have any other idea that could be usefull to me?

Thanks!

1. Shouldn't be too bad for the short term.
2. See 1.
3. Shouldn't you be looking at the CSX Type S for the springs that match your Sedan?
4. Good luck.

The CSX doesn't have the same body design as the Civic so i'm not sure if the shocks will fit... I havent herd about anyone installing a CSX suspension to a civic and i dont feel like beeing the tester lol... I have herd that all the suspenions and interchangeable between civics, so i assume that the si coupes shocks would fit the sedan, but would it be that bad if i used them with the Si sedan springs? Do they use the same shocks for the sedan and the coupe Sis?

See if you can get the part number for just the si HFP dampers that would be an even bigger improvment.

Is that possible because that would be nice.

I don't know just a thought I see seperate part numbers on the dampers when I see them. I would think so. Anyone with a HFP suspension want to give me the Part numbers off the dampers only and I will look it up?? I could be wrong but honda normally does it that way.

I don't want to dish out tones of $ on the Si suspension... I'm spending so much money on this that i could have practicaly purchased an HFP suspension from collegehillshonda... I wanted to improve my handling by going the Si suspension route since it was supposed to cost me round 200-250$... Now if i use the EX shocks i wont have to spend more money, but if i decide to get new Si coup shocks, that would be an additional 250$

Care to ship me the broken rear shocks? I'll PayPal you $20 USD for the pair. That should cover shipping (the rear shocks aren't that heavy and I don't need them rushed) now that the shocks themselves are worthless due to the leak.

Not bad, the Si Coupe springs aren't significantly stiffer than Sedan springs, maybe 80 lbs./inch difference. That's not enough to upset the OEM EX dampers.

College Hills Honda sells rear shocks for $55 USD each. Get the USDM Si Sedan rear shocks. These are the stiffest OEM Civic rear shock available. Another member on this board is an engineer for Honda and he sent me Si Sedan rear shocks as well as HFP rear shocks to test for autocrossing purposes. The Si Sedan units were much stiffer. I run them in the rear of my LX Coupe now... At least until my frankenstein-like experimental custom rear shocks come!

Also, to the best of my knowledge, the HFP units are sold as a set and cannot be ordered separately. How Honda would handle a warranty claim is beyond me, but I have yet to see them marketed individually. And no, I sold the HFP rear shocks I had a while back. Sorry!

The Si rear shocks are stiffer than the HFP? That makes no sense to me! I am actually thinking of simply getting the HFP suspension instead of the Si's... I wouldnt mind selling you the pair but 20$ seems like its not enough to cover the shipping... Give me your zip and ill get back to you asap for the price!

Si SEDAN. Heaviest of all Honda Civcs. They are especially stiffer in rebound which is why I chose to run them instead of the HFP rears.

You don't have to believe me, but I tested the two side by side and as I said, the guy is an engineer at the Alliston center.

My U.S. Postal Zip Code: 07747

I'd estimate the package weight at less than 10lbs. (4.5kg)

My custom rear shocks coming from California were 8 lbs. according to the UPS website.

Is the HFP shock for the SI sedan stiffer than that of the stock shock? You make it sound like the rear stock shock is the stiffest one made, more so than the HFP.

Isn't the CSX-S the same car as the FA5 except for different sheet metal (and plastic), and interior?

I'm not quite sure... I've pretty much decided that i will go for the HFP suspension kit... Less trouble, better performance and my front end wont be higher than stock anymore!

Greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

I tool the liberty of checking the USPS and Canada Post and in both cases the price was about $20-22 USD for a package that weighs less than 10 lbs (4.5kg).

I based the figures on downtown Montreal as that is where your location states.
