Crap, that sucks. What part broke? The bar bracket to the mount? Or the mount to the frame? Because the mount to the frame would be far worse

Not sure by your description, but it was the part there the end link connects to the frame. The same area where yours broke in the pic.
Is it imperative to get this fixed ASAP or is it fine for a while? I've got no money to get it fixed or a mig to do the fix myself. |

Oh okay, sorry I was thinking where the bar mounts up to the underbody of the car.
Your car isn't going to spontaneously combust or anything, but it definitely hurts your cornering ability, so you'll want to get it addressed when you can. Unfortunately since it already broke, Highrev's reinforcing plate isn't going to help you; you'll have to get it welded... so while you're at it, you might as well weld in a few additional washers.

Hi guys I just read through some of the posts on this little thread and can honestly say thank god I found it, cause I would have been clueless about the tear out problem with the progress rear sway bar. I was just looking into getting the bar for my FA5, which is totally stock, and I am definitely appreciative to all for helping me make the more educated decision about getting the sway bar. A little question I have is, I would like to get the reinforcements for the endlinks mounting points. I saw that stated just three posts up I can get them from Josh at Excelerate but I am not sure of how to get ahold of him or let him know that I would like to purchase a set. I am wondering how the car will handle after I put the bar on with the reinforcements with the stock suspension. I had a del sol that I installed an oem rear bar from a vtec del sol, mine was an si w/o a rear bar. I noticed that when turning, the rear felt like it wanted to basically rotate. Also the back seemed to be more planted to the road when pushed, around a tight reference corner. I'm just having a difficult time finding parts for the car that I want to modify the car with because of so many debates for just about every part for our cars. Having more positive feedback for a part would give a much easier decision, for god sakes I was just going to do a coilover setup and a sway bar setup like most would do for a suspension mod, but now I am unsure if I want to go that route cause of so much speculation as to weather or not it even makes as big of a dif as it did on all the old civic chassis. Sorry for so much in a little space but I'm just overwhelmed with what to do first and if I should even do anything at all. All help is much appreciated.

A lot of older cars didn't even come with rear sway bars. It's not imperative to have one but as it's been stated it does affect handling and stability.
That said, on the tiburon forums, it's a known issue that upgraded sway bars have a tendency to break the tabs on the struts (endlinks get mounted to the struts on the tiburon). A member on the forums just built new, stronger, thicker tabs that we weld back onto the stock location. Personally I had new tabs welded on and upgraded my endlinks to fully adjustable KJBs so I couldn't complain any more. It's good to know that they break on civics too. I'll probably contact KJB for beefy endlinks and that tib member for new tabs that fit the civic. -Wally |

i have had my rear sway bar on for about a year and did not upgrade anything and i have had no problems. i do take corners fast occasionally but for the most part i drive calmly. i do not autocross but i have a feeling thats why a lot of peoples brackets were breaking.

This was a common occurance with 3rd gen non-type-r Integras that upgraded with a 98+ JDM Type-R rear sway bar. All you need is the reinforcement kit and everything will be fine, even with autocross and high speed lapping. There's no reason all you guys have to get scared of installing the Progress rear sway bar with the reinforcement kit. I highly believe this upgrade is necessary to help eliminate understeer that our FWD cars suffer from.

How much for the sway bar reinforcement brakets? I can't seem to find a price. Also, I have Tein Flex Coils with stock endlinks and a progress sway bar. Since the Spring rate is so high, from what I've read, should I upgrade the endlinks? I have Corsport V2 endlinks laying in my garage. I haven't installed them cause I heard they rattle. Any thoughts on that as well?

With the higher rate on the dampers, your swaybar isn't doing as much work, so if anything, you're safer than me :)
