You will need this wrench to do spring install

It is a box wrench to get the nut off the front top of strut,I got it at sears its a 17mm box wrench for 16.50.

for those of us that don't have them, I took a 17mm socket and put in a vice grip. Then used an allen wrench to get it off.

or loosen the nut while the strut is still on the car and you dont need the allen key at all

I had no problem changing my springs with just a ratchet and spring compressor.

You could also use a Gear Wrench Vortex socket set as it has a pass through center where you can use an alllen key to hold the bolt while turning the nut:

Once you buy one of these sets, you will be amazed... I reach for my Gear Wrench sockets more often than my other stuff. The GW has a nice short profile that lets it get into tight spots (think extrememly compact head).

And yes, I bought the GW set just for the strut installs on my Subaru... great tool though!
