Coilovers v.s. Tires
Which mods should come first? Coilovers v.s. Rims + Tires
Performance/handling wise, I would assume tires would make the bigger difference first? I have stock 16's on + front / rear sways. I was going to wait until I find new wheels then get the drop. Just wondering if coilovers on stock wheels will make a big difference. |

Coilovers will help your handling but only the stock tires will hold you back from from sticking corners and curves. You can drop it first then just run the stock tires into the ground, then your forced to get new tires
And you might as well buy wheels while your at it. Thats what I would do. Or you could just save for a couple of months or buy both. |

tires have a huge impact on performance. i for one, hate the HX MXM4's. i dont know about the exaltos however. ive never used such garbage michelins. and they're pilot too! my old BM 325i came with MXV4's and those were great. i traded those for Pilot XGT's and those were even better. my dads M3 came with PS's..great tires.
edit: seems as though the EX comes with Goodyear Eagle RS-A ? dont know anything about those tires, so maybe the above is all useless. |

Tires and light wheels will definitely make more of a difference in handling, but if you plan on doing your suspension no matter what, I would do that first. Tires are consumable, so you're going to have to replace any set eventually. If the tires you have are going to be good for a while then you might as well use them up and then upgrade. No sense in being wasteful, right?

If you are doing the coilovers for the drop (looks) and not to improve the handling, just do springs with wheels and tires. Just remember, if you lower the car more than an inch, you will to need to install front and rear camber kits (about $325 + installation) and alignment. IMO go for performance wheels and tires first because the coilovers will not preform as well with oem wheels and tires. Also, I looked at your profile, and it's hard to beleive you have not upgraded your oem wheels and tires to finish off what must be a great looking car.
