Si sways on Lx? IMO, not worth it.

After reading rave reviews on the difference the Si front and rear sways help on the incredibly bad highway handling of the Lx sedans I went for it. $150 improved handling by maybe 30% at best. Car still bounces around like a toy when any wind is present when doing highway speeds.

I refuse to spend more cash to get a $18k vehicle to drive and handle the way it suppose to handle in the first place. I will upgrade the tires when the stocks wear out and hope that may help, but I have 1000 other things that I can spend $ on then a damn car that's used for transportation.

Can't tell me all small cars do this on the highways. I have driven an 02, Mazda Protege which cost 14k that didn't have any such problems. I'm betting the Corrola doesn't do it either. What the hell Honda............

I would have to disagree with you there. After I put just the rear Si sway bar on my car, it improved the highway jitters 100%, and they were gone.

I had an 02 Corolla and it definately gets knocked around like a toy in those same conditions as you described, much more so than the 07 LX I drive now. Look on the more positive things like like it's reliability, resale value, drive-by-wire throttle, and responsive steering among other things.

I think oem side skirt would help, stabilize your car a bit, when getting hit by cross winds~areodynamics. I just ran (on foot) today on my track and let me tell you the wind was pushing me side to side, the lighter your car the more it is suseptable to cross winds. (as with people) Longer wheel base helps stabilize the car at higher speeds and probably cross winds, not like you can really change that. My LX (with 18" tires, stock springs, Si rear sway bar, carbing front upper strut bar) still gets moved around a little by the wind, o well. We'll see what happens after I get my HFP suspension kit.

I recomend for you or anyone:
-Lower your car. (stiffer springs)
-Beefier anti-sway bars
-strut bars
-wider, lower profile performance tires
-oem side skirts

Putting on SI Sways wasn't going to solve the bounciness in the first place. I have both sways on stock suspension, and the sways make a world of difference during TURNS, but your stock shocks are what they are, bouncy and un-planted. If you want stability during freeways then you should get a drop. But take your car through some mountains roads then you will see why they are worth it.

Side skirts? Low profile tires?
I agree with the rest though :].
Get racing seats and your car will handle better ;].

Because I am over 25 for one..............Really, didn't want a six speed and the purpose of buying a civic was for the mpg. If i wasn't concerned about mpg and wanted a sportier car, it wouldn't be the Si.

Also someone mentioned that the sways aren't for bounciness, I say, No shit. The sways are for body roll, loseness feeling you get driving this tin can. And for me the car is low enough stock and hard enough to get in and out at stock height. Shouldn't have to lower a new car to look like a teenagers ride in order for it to handle properly.

So your point is? From your OP it sounded like you expected the SI sways to fix the bounciness at highway speeds

IMO the civic performs decently for its price range, but don't expect it to ride like a german car stock.

Wow ok, one of the first major things I noticed about my 06 SI when I started commuting with it is how stable it is in extreme winds and rain at 80mph on the highway, especially for a car that weighs so little. My lowered f-150 v8/5 speed feels like a death trap comparatively and it actually handles good for a full size truck LOL.
Im not sure what the exact differences are between the civic models but I know the SI is wayyy more stable in the elements at speed than so many other vehicles Ive owned and driven. Im no spring chicken and I drive over a hundred miles a day almost everyday on some pretty car demanding roads around NJ and NYC and I love to drive... anyway after over 22k hard miles im still amazed at how road confidant this car is and how fun to drive it is in all weather. Im also still on the same stock tires which have a lot of life left surprisingly, same brake pads and shocks (im planning a few mods of course)... Anyway the car is still tight as a drum with no mechanical problems and no noises, its been an amazingly awesome little car, its my first Honda and I would recommend it highly to anyone who wants a good car in this price range who really loves to drive.

So, if an LX sedan owner were going to upgrade sway bar(s) for issues such as body roll...would someone suggest either the Si rear sway bar or the progress rear sway? Also...to keep from introducing understeer after rear sway install...would you skip the Si front sway bar?
I guess I need to know if anyone installed the Si sway bar...didn't think it changed it enough...and then installed progress rear sway bar....anyone try this?
Thanks for the feedback...

I cant convey how hard I'm laughing at that statement...that tack on crap is for looks, period. That junk has no function, what so ever.

well I upgraded to the Si front and sways and I have noticed little if any change so you may want to try something more sturdier then that.

Really? I'm glad you got a laugh out of it. However I still would like to think that it is some what functional, since its made by Honda.
