And i think they are out of their mind, but the only thing is that no one around here knows how to install the springs..

here is what they send me..

Labor on installation 402.00 plus tax, alignment 4 wheel 59.95 plus tax with installation of springs, please let me know

i don't know if its a national thing but most places can't tax labor. And yes that price does seem rather high, but i don't know what the norm is. You should call them and ask what they charge to replace stock springs and see if you can catch them changing their story.

They quoted me 250+ tax on the full instalation of the HFP suspension.. so i reply to them why are they charging me way more to install only 4 springs than the full HFP..

Wow my dealer wanted $550 for the HFP kit. I had it done elsewhere for $275 plus the alignment.

When you think about it, except for 2 additional bolts its the same amount of work to replace springs as it is to install the whole HFP kit. Actually it's more work, as you need to break out the spring compressor and put the aftermarket springs on the factory struts. The HFP's come pre-assembled. The price they quoted you is actually a deal.

Install them yourself and then take it to a dedicated alignment shop for that part. You can find DIYs on these forums. It's really, seriously, honestly not hard to do.

It should be worth noting that the HFP would probably be easier to install because the front strut should come preassembled; you don't have to get a spring compressor and get the spring off of the old one, etc.

$400 for an install is crazy. You could do the whole thing in 2, maybe 3 hours and they aleady have the tools handy. That's like $150 to $200 dollars per hour for labor.

Wow, you don't need a compressor? That's awesome! I may actually get it now that I can do it myself. The labor was scaring me away. Question though: will they still warranty the suspension if you install it yourself?

That's the $1,000,000 question. I've asked 3 of the dealers around me and they told me that it would void if I installed it myself. If they put it on, then there would be no problems. The dealer where I bought the car from will price match College Hills for $600 for kit, $250 labor, and $85 for install (all + tax). I called Honda and they told me that it would void my 100K warranty EVEN if the dealer installed it (since it wasn't on the car when I bought it).

I also have a different warranty. I have a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper since mine was a Honda Factory Certified Pre-owned car. They threw this in while I was fighting over the price. So my warranty might be different than the regular 3 year/36K?

no parts void your warranty. The only time your warranty may be refused is if the dealership can proved that an aftermarket or incorrectly installed component caused your problem. so just because you put springs on doesn't mean they won't fix your MAF sensor under warranty.

I guess am going to have to pay the $400 for the instalation, since no shops around here do any thing like that..

I live in TN, i know if i was in California it will be much easier and cheaper to find a place that will install them..

The HFP suspension is a 2.2 book hour job so it should only be about $240 if they round up to the half hour (and yes they always round up).

Sounds to me like your dealers are seeing some of you guys coming from a mile away.

Who is it that determines the "book hours" for a particular job - is it the dealer or Honda corporate? My dealer told me the HFP suspension install was "listed" as a 7.5 hour job (on a sedan) and that's what they billed me for.
