Changing the brake fluid for track.. Suggested?

The autox/track season is starting soon, and I'm getting my SI in shape for its first year out. My Hawk HPS pads just arrived, and when I do the install I'd like to fill the system with some synthetic brake fluid. I used Valvoline SynthPower in my Nissan track car.. So I was going to go with that.

That is until I was thumbing through my manual today and it made the Honda factory heavy duty brake fluid sound like gods gift to a braking system.. What is suggested in this case?

ATE super blue brake. Then when you go to flush again change to the ATE gold and you can tell exactly when the system has been flushed. And its good fluid.

I have super blue in my car too and I love it. I would also recomend getting the ss brake lines to finish up your brakes for the season. Good luck!

Agreed, the SS brake lines will make a huge difference in pedal feel.

Doing the same thing sort of. I went with Axxis Ultimates, Stoptech rotors and switched to ATE Super Blue. This is the fluid I used in my MR2 track car and was very happy with it.

Good luck!

I'm sure Wilwood makes a decent fluid, but I wouldn't recommend it over ATE simply because of all of the horrible experiences I have had with Wilwood brake kits.

DOT 5 brake fluid is silicone based.. It's said to not absorb moisture. However not all brake systems can use DOT 5 fluid based on design characteristics. Also, mixing DOT 5 fluid with other brake fluids will cause a reaction that forms a thick "gummy" substance, effectively destroying your brake system.

However, DOT 5.1 is okay. Were it me, I'd buy the Valvoline stuff and bleed them after track use rather than buy something more expensive for the few degrees difference and then keep it in the system longer.

That's what it's called, but they also sell a gold colored fluid that's exactly the same but for color to help you bleed out the old fluid.
