New Springs on Stock Shocks....Any Problems?

I don't have the cash to drop on coilovers, so my I'm looking into buying new springs. My concern is, will the stock shocks blow out with lowering springs? How long will the shocks last if they will blow out? Also, how low can I drop the car without needing camber kits?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is the first car I'm modding. Will I need an alignment after the installation of the springs? Finally, how much should I expect to pay for the installation.

Thanks,
Amit

1. since your car is relatively new, there isn't much wear on ur struts, so you should be fine since you're doing a mild drop.
2. technically, w/ any drop you should get a camber kit. however, ppl have gotten 1" drops and say they don't really need it. camber kits just ensure even wear on your tires. however, 1" drops hardly require this (although you may want to rotate your tires more often for even wear)
3. you will ALWAYS need an alignment after you lower your car.
4. cost for installation will vary greatly. personally i got hook ups so the installation will be free. i just need to pay for the alignment when i have mine done.

Is it safe just to drop on springs, without any aftermarket shocks?

you'll be fine for a while if you doing daily driving type stuff, but if you doing auto x you'll wear the shocks/struts a lot faster. should be fine with the oem stuff for about 10k or so.

I really want to drop my Si, but I want to autox also. I was looking on solo2.com for class regulations and cant find it. Do you guys think that shocks will be available anytime soon?

you'll be fine with the springs/shocks combi unless u drive like crazy, then, u may wanna save up for the full coilover set up. but if i were u, i'll save some for the aftermarket shocks (not available yet) cuz the stockies will not hold the aftermarket springs forever.

If you're planning on getting into autox, just save your money and get coilovers. Because if you buy springs and use your car for autox, your shocks will blow, then you would eventually buy coilovers. Remember if you go the cheep road, you'll end up spending more in the end.

If I do wait and save up for coilovers, which ones are recommended? I've heard that the Tien SS are nice. Also, is the EDFC worth the extra cash?

The Tien's are a great coilover but unless you plan on adjusting your suspension everyday or need to be able to change it quickly once in awhile then the EDFC is kinda overkill for just a street application.
