Carbing Upper Strut Bar Pics

I ordered a Carbing Upper Strut Bar the help complete the handling package on my FG. The installation is pretty straight forward. Here are some pics:

Beautiful welded end plates, the double bolt on the endplates is a much better setup than the single bolt found on other bars:

End Plates Installed:

Bar Bolted back together:

Last time the beautifully crafted bar will be seen:

Only way to see the bar once it is installed, through the vin window:

It is a shame that the upper strut bar can not be seen after installation but hey function before form. I have never been a fan of bolt together style strut bars, due to the flexing and adjustablility of that style of bar. But the Carbing bar with its dual bolt on either end plate is a very good solution to this issue. You could not install an upper strut bar on our vehicles if it was a single piece bar. That being said the Carbing strut bar does add to the high speed stability of the front end of the vehicle. When tossing the car into highway sweepers the front end tracks much better. The only issue with this bar is that it does need to be removed if you plan to do a header install or rere a valve cover. Basically anywork that requires the factory windshield brace to be removed, the strut brace gets in the ways of that. Other than that, this is a great piece I would have expected nothing less from Carbing or Tein.

604_ep3, how well do you think the Carbing bar would improve performance on a curvy mountain road?

For sure. It does help the turn in of the car. The bar aids in the stiffness of the chassis. It is most noticable in high speed turn in. But on my favorite mountian road my car feels noticably more nibble on direction changes.

604_ep3, I checked out your profile and saw that you had the megan braces on your car. How much difference do they make?

I have a review of the Megan braces posted also. Megan H-Brace and lower rear brace Review
The Megan lower front h-brace and lower rear tie bar did help tighten up the chassis. The did make the chassis stiffer. Not as noticable a mod on a stock suspension, but with my coil overs and my current setup it was noticable. Not a recommended first mod but definately helps.

Where did you get the bar from? How much? And how long did the installation take?

I order it from my local Tein dealer. You can order it through any one of the forum sponsors their pricing is pretty good. The install took about an hour and a bit. Overall not that difficult to install.

Nice write-ups! Thanks! Nice to see a brain now & then. I have the Megan H-brace on its way. I think I'll hold on the rear Megan brace until I can order the Carbing and go from there. How are the Megan coil-overs doing? Any issues with the drop on the rear?

The Megan are very good. No complaints. I just got the latest revised rear spring and I am just testing them out right now. With the new rear springs the ride height isn't an issue anymore. Bottoming in the rear isn't an issue anymore. I am trying to get some more set time before I do a full write up about the revised rears.

Can anyone tell me the best way to stiffen up the torsional rigidity of the civic? Would it most likely come from an X brace or upper (front/rear) strut tower or lower braces???

Yes is should fit non si. I don't see why it wouldn't.

The sock is a resevoir cover. So when you boil your brake fluid on the track it doesn't spill everywhere. And is looks cool.
