Tein SS and Tein Flex....differences??

I'm looking at both of these suspensions and I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between the Tein Flex and Tein SS coilover systems. My guess is the Flex has more levels and is a little better considering the higher price, but I want someone to clarify it for me. I will be getting the EDFC, and I'm pretty sure this is compatable with both systems, but tell me if it isn't. Thanks for the help.

Both will accept EDFC but the Flex have upper pillow ball mounts. I have the SS and am very happy with ride/my current drop settings.

Can you elaborate on these upper pillowball mounts? I read that, but don't really understand the difference. Do they allow for better adjustability or what?

well i had both ... i currently have the Flex ... i'd have gotten it from day one if it was available....

the pillowball uppers give more adjustability as u can now adjust ur camber from up there so there's no need to buy a camber kit for the front. It allows for smoother operation also ... etc etc.

with the flex u have separate height adjustment in the front ... which means i can preload ur spring to wherever u want and then set the height without messing with ur spring .... on the SS height is adjusted by changing the spring preload.

the flex has more agressive spring rates but u wouldn't know it ... it rides very nice ... i currently have it on the stiffest setting but it doesn't feel that way ... it's a comfortable ride... haven't tried any other settings yet.

the rear springs are more beefy on the flex from what i can recall ...

the EDFC units work on both but they are not the same for both....

if u have the coin ... get the flex.

Thanks for the info Marvie. Originally I was going to get the SS, but now I have some more dough, so I can get the Flex. I am going to get the Flex since it seems like you get more adjustability. Now, anyone know where I can get a good deal on the Flex and the EDFC?

Nice. Now with the EDFC, I can change the levels without having to do anything outside the car?

You don't wanna try other coilovers? Silkroad, K-Sport, et. al.?

NOTE: EDFC does not change the ride height. It changes the d-settings.

EDFC allows you to chage the damper settings from inside the car. The height adjustments are done outside the car with the wheels off the car.

If you really want to use the EDFC, then go for it. I don't see the point of adjusting your damper every now and then unless you track the car and you don't want to pop it up and adjust it form there. Oh and it adjustable to 32 now (Half a turn = 32 // Full Turn = 16). SS and the Flex are still too conservative for me and you wouldn't really notice any difference from 0 to 16(32) on normal roads. But see, that's just me since I've was lucky enough to try several coilovers way back. You'll probably feel when you're on the highway doing around 50+mph.

Again to other people who dunno.

EDFC = Adjust Damping...not Spring Rates or Ride Height.

You can just pop it out and turn it manually, it's not that hard. You can do it with your pinky. Don't get me wrong, I like the EDFC, I used to have one...but then I realized that I wasn't being clocked anyway when I'm in the pit resting. To me it's bling factor overshadows its usefulness.

well u don't change it that often ... and it's easy to get to the rear ones...
however the front is a pain cuz u'll have to remove some stuff to get to it ... they don't show like on older model cars ... so for convenience and ease, if u know u not going to set it and leave it then i'd say u should get it.
