Bottoming out on Eibach Pro Kits?

Hi all,

I just experienced bottoming out using the Eibach Pro Kit Springs with stock shocks. Getting aftermarket shocks is in my to-do list but I am still waiting for those to come out in Asia. Mine is a JDM ride. I got some info from my regular forum buddies that the bottoming out issue have nothing to do with the shocks but rather that the Eibach springs are too soft. So the shortness and the soft springs is causing the bottoming out. Is this true? Appreciate those on lowered springs can comment cos we do not have too many bros have Eibachs Pro Kits installed here.

Thanks.

How do you know you were bottoming out? It feels pretty severe when the you run out of suspension travel and you're constantly on the bump stops. With the drop that Eibach pro-kits provide, you still have plenty of suspension travel and the springs are stiffened relative to the mild drop they provide.

The question is, are the Japanese struts the same as the US struts the Eibachs were designed for. I have Eibach sportlines on my SI - a good deal lower than the pro-kits and I have yet to bottom out on the largest of dips as the stock struts are plenty strong enough to control the drop and have been on for almost 9 months of daily driving in NY.

Well, I was travelling at about 90km/h when I hit a gradual downslope and rapid upslope - like riding a wave. It was definitely bottomming out cos I heard the thud of fully compressed springs from the front. I had experienced bottoming with the stock setups before with almost similar road situations but that happens only with full load - 4 passengers. This time I encountered when I am alone. There are a lot of humps on the road near my estate, so I have to go slower than normal as I know you cannot speed through those with lowered springs but this is the first time I encountered on a normal road. However, I did a thorough check and there was no tell tale sign of the rubbing against the wells or fenders. I am running on stock 16" rims.

I too had them for about 2 months or so and its the first bottoming out for me. My ride is about 7 months old and just had the shocks checked. They are fine. So it could be the road that day.....

Bottoming out due to strut issues here is not likely. The struts are for rebound from compression. Did you cut your bumpstops? If not my guess is you are hitting those. If you did cut them, I would cut them more or get some different springs.

ok....

now that you stated fronts are the ones bottoming out this
eliminates the whole "spacer" in the rear that needs cutting.
Now for the fronts coming down on ya...

- Install wrong?
- Springs not facing correct way (Eibach reads on each coil)
and each coil had a # to accociate Left from right!
- Did you install all the stock rubber bushings, etc..?

cuz mine still have NOT bottomed out bro'

too lazy to read all the posts above, but when you installed your
prokits, did you cut about 1" off the bumpstops? if not give that a shot.

usually sus setups like ours require the front to be cut about 1" to provide
extra stroke. unless one recommends not to cut it, give it a shot.

It's got to be the install, the parts are not likely defective

Ok, I just did a manual check by jacking up the fronts and try as Imight, I am not able to see the # on the front springs. The back was easy enuff as the Eibach logo and the # was facing the rear of the car. Can someone on pro-kits check if the logo should be facing outwards (easy to see) or is it inwards (impossible to see). Else I might need to take out the thing again.

Thanks guys.

you need to see the logo on the front ones

I dont see the logo either and I know they are reversed if I look at the instructions provided with the springs

the rear ones can be anywhere right/left

Yuppers,
the front coils have to be on the proper side (L/R)
and the rear coils dont matter.

So make sure the front #'s are on the correct side
of the vehicle.

Bro, I have just talked to my mech over the phone and he said that it would be next to impossible to have the front springs installed on the wrong side as it would not fit. He is like 97% sure of it but he said I am welcome to remove and verify it so that I would be 100% at peace with myself. I said hell yeah I want 100% sure.

But can he be right though? I know certain brands and even some of the Eibach springs for other car models are not side specific. Any comments appreciated.

I should've monitored the install more closely.....

Your mech may be right but im going off what i had
read on my install. By the instructions givin the rears
did not matter but for soem reason you had to make
sure the left spring went on the left shock, vise-versa....
making sure the word "Eibach and #" were facing upwards.

im just trying to help out any way i can??

Appreciate the help man. I really do. I was also referring to the instruction manual but was skeptical with my mech especially after he said that Left and Right did not matter - based on his "experience".
