HFP susp vs. Tein SS vs. Tein CS

ok i am undecided between the HFP suspension, tein ss kit, and the tein cs kit for my si civic. My plan is to get some 18's wrapped in 40 series rubber. I want the car slightly lowered approximately a inch but still want a ride quality close to factory. I have heard all sorts of good things about each kit but would like to get some input from people who have any of these kits in terms of ride quality and so forth. My car is a daily driver so thats why i want something that can handle the rigors of crappy so cal highways and streets.

thanks :)

HFP FTW! I have it, and my car is my daily driver. Perfect ride....a little stiffer than stock, almost an inch drop, and handles almost like AWD! It is not harsh at all for a DD. Comfortable and smoth ride. The doesn't dip hard when you brake hard or when you accelerate. 1 more thing........it won't void your warranty. GOod Luck and make the right choice.

do you aftermarket wheels on your ride??? the one thing i would be concerned is with aftermarket wheels/tires making the hfp suspension stiffer...

this "void ur warranty" thing is total crap....
u see it in every thread......

putting in an aftermarket suspension will not void ur warranty....ur tranny goes bad they can't blame that on ur suspension and so on....ofcourse if u blow a shock u can't get it warrantied by honda...but that's where the manufacturer will honor their warranty so u'll be covered anyway...

the HFP drop is slight at best...u want an inch drop, best ride u can get for street and some strip then get the Tein SS.

i have ridden in all of the above that u mentioned....HFP in a friend's ride, tein SS + EDFC in my ride and megan racing in my ride now....TEIN SS is hands down the best all around...

The HFP is harder than the stock suspension and u feel it....

the Tein SS could be on the hardest setting and still soak up bumps better than the HFP but still perform better and allow u more play...ofcourse it comes with the added cost of the rear camber kit...the front would be nice to get but not needed.

the megans for the price is very good for performance oriented driving....but kinda rough and tight over the bumps and the rear tends to bottom out easilly when u have weight in the car...

if u have the money...Tein SS all the way.

You might as well lock this thread up because sicky just summed everything up. I enjoyed reading that.

sicky...

as you said earlier the tein ss kit is hands down the best kit out there. now at its softest setting it still would be softer or ride smoother than the hfp kit right??? but at the softest setting would you be at the highest in terms of ride height correct?? what i'm trying to do is get a moderate 1 inch drop at all 4 corners with a close to stock ride quality. Like i mentioned before i just want to close the fender gap when i get 18's....

thanks:)

the ride height has nothing to do with how hard or soft these things ride.
the damping is was determines how hard or soft it rides...

so u can drop it 1 inch and set it at the softest damping rate....the spring rate is higher than that of stock and i think hfp so it will still offer u more performance than the 2 and ur ride will still be nice cuz u on the softest damping setting.

i have 18s wrapped in 225/40 tires...did a 1 inch drop and the gap was like a finger and a lil bit...almost 2 fingers...that's all relative cuz it depends on how big ur fingers are....

so again...the ride height will not determine the quality of the ride unless u slam it real real low.

as far as the tein ss kit... the edfc is not required to set the dampening correct??? it is more of a luxury item i guess...since you have the ability to control those features inside the car...I'm trying to do this whole on a budget without breaking the bank.

u can adjust the damping without the EDFC...
u'll have knobs u can control the damping from above the struts...

I agree with sicky. I just put on the Tein SS last week and I LOVE them. The ride is awesome and it's so easy to adjust...plenty of room to play with height. Handles like a dream.....take the stock handling now and eliminate a majority of body roll and the car moves like it's on rails. And I have it on the soft side of dampening.

Just make sure you get rear camber kits....holy crap mine is off a good 2-3 degrees at least right now.....Comptech on the way!! :)

get the hfp springs if all you want is a comfortable ride that is lowered.
get tein ss if you want some adjustability and you are thinking about racing your car.

i personally plan on getting tein flex, buddy club, or progress. i want to eventually road race my car so a full coilover is ideal for me.

anyone know when the flex are coming out? any word on buddy club? they had really good setup for the rsx.

so if your car is only a daily driver, save your money and just get the springs. does not make sense to spend alot of money on suspension if you dont plan on putting it on the track

just my .02 cents

on a scale of 1-10...10 being stiff like a mofo...and 1 for soft and super plush... how does the hfp rate as ??? My take on the stock si's suspension is probably a 6...definitely not the softest plushest ride but very crisp and sporty...i guess i'm used to my tahoe's plush air suspension:)

Does anyone have any reviews on the Tein Basics? Also Sickyute i see that you have the new tein edfc black control...Aren't you running the Megan racing coilovers, or did you somehow hook it up to them??? Are your Tein SS for sale, pm if they are thanks

the tein basics have the same spring rate as the tein SS.

what i don't know is at what damping rate it is set at...that is the only difference between it and the SS. the SS i can adjust damping to ur liking and the basic u can't...so if the basic is set stiff and u don't like it...u are stuck.

I had the new edfc(the black one) ... when i switched to the megans i sold everything to a member on here for a cheapo price. coilovers and new edfc...AJP has my old edfc(the silver one) with all motors and wires if anybody wants to buy it.

megans are nice...but i prefer the teins for some slight reasons
