Track Day, brakes were great.

Hey guys, I thought I could let you know on my track day.

I bought some Hawk HT-10 for the front and Hawk Blue for the back along with Goodridge SS lines.

Well, I was very happy, the brakes were very consistent no brake fade and I ran all day. ABS was less obstructive with the SS lines than with the Stock ones.

I still had a great amount of pads left after the day, until they flew out of my trunk when I got into an accident.

Mods:
Stock Tires (maybe why I didn't get to experience any brake fade)
Stock Rotors
Stock Suspension
ATE Super Blue
Goodridge SS Line
Hawk HT-10
Hawk Blue

Edit: Sessions were 30 mins.

Don't be shy to ask questions or to give your thoughts.

Sorry about your accident bro, upgrade your tires, you'll be amazed at how much difference it will be. A larger contact patch with better quality rubber, your braking will definitely be improved. Where are you located?

I know tires will make a crazy difference. I have them, I just wanted to try everything on there own first. I have Pirelli Pzero Corsa's if you wanted to know.

Its your stock tires that kept your brakes from fading. They don't fair well with sticky tires.

Actually, wider tires don't increase the size of the contact patch, they change the shape of the contact patch and the shape of the patch changes less in dynamic situations. Thats where the increased grip comes from. Size of the contact patch is mostly determined by vehicle weight and distribution of that weight. Strange I know, but thats what actually happens.

I kinda understand, it's hard to imagine visually, but theoretically it's viable.

What you are doing is increasing the width of the contact patch, but decreasing the length. So you have moved the patch to an area that it can resist the lateral forces better. I can see it in my head, just having trouble really explaining it.

Oh now I can see it, I guess that's what I meant by increasing the contact patch lol. Increasing the width so when cornering, more of it will be used, correct?

Good stuff man. Your settup was very similar to my 1st track day. Stainless lines, same ATE Super blue fluid. Stock suspension. I had better tires tho.

But actually, I went to the track this past thursday with the Skunk 2 Pro C's and also I had Nitto NT01 R compound tires. I was using the same lines and fluid. But I was running porterfield R4 track pads in the front.. And I tell you. R compound Tires, track pads, and a good suspension makes a hell of a difference. I actually truely believe I had TOO much grip then the car could handle lol. But with that said. I think the brakes need some work. I didnt P***y brake at all. I slamed on them and trail braked where I could. And I tell you, the pads were still overheating. It was a fairly hot 96 degree day. God knows what the track temp was... but I think its time to upgrade the rotors.

As you mentioned, the ABS didnt give me too much trouble. Despite the fact that I had R4 track pads in the front, and R4s street pads in the rear.

So with my settup, the only 2 complaints I have were the brakes over heating, and I was getting some nasty wheel hop.. Which I need to track down and fix.

Sweet. I'm thinking to just go with DBA 4000's for the rotors and make myself some brake ducks using the fog lights holes.

Get some engine mounts too. Helps a good deal.
