BMW uses single piston floating calipers on their cars, including the M-series ones (except for the 135). No one ever complains about how awful and ineffective their brakes are, do they?

Yes, for you it will be overkill. All you need to do is get good stainless steel lines, good fluid, and good brake pads, this will improve your braking ability enough to make you happy.

But this doesn't mean that all single piston caliper setups are good.

check into willwoods or ap racing they are both good kits for a good price, as to wether it is worth while thats up to you, I do track my car and the ease of pad change alone is more than worth it..

Hmmmmm! were we talking BMW's here and yup plenty of bimmer owners complain about their brakes, and how difficult it is to work with all of the safety features and sensors involved with the BMW brakes.

you are also comparing cars that are worlds apart, a BMW has alot of features that you will prob never see in the civic, such as brake fade compensation, electronic proportioning to sense extra pressure needed to a specific brake under conditions requiring more force to 1 side or the other ..as far as reasons for aftermarket brakes go bottom line is a multi piston is always gonna be better than a single, this has already been proven many many yrs ago..

If you are looking for US companies, I'd go with Goodridge, I've used a few of their lines, and have not been dissapointed. Priced well too.

For fluid, I say go with Motul, but that's just me, you've got tons of options:

Racing and High Performance Brake Fluid

No, but it isn't the handicap that some are making it out to be.
