E-Brake Doesn't Work!

I can't seem to make the rear wheels lock-up while pulling on the e-brake while going over 10km/hr!!!!!!

Brought it to the dealer, he tried it out, went for a little drive, yanked the brake as hard as he could & the car just slowed to a stop, no skid!

They looked at tightening the cable, but told me that it was within spec, and any tighter the brake could be on all the time.

He even requested info from higher up as to what the problem could be, and they told him that the e-brake is pneumatic, and doesn't instantaneously apply braking force like drum brakes.

This sounds like bogus to me, any one else out there not able to lock the rear wheels up at low speeds to do a little skid?

Are you serious, you brought it to the dealership and they actually tried to diagnose the problem by drifting with it? Oh man, this has to be the most hilarious thread I've seen!

I have to agree, the e-brake is for when your are stoped. Sounds to me like it's doing what it should. An si is not a fast and furious drift car.

It was seriously yanked all the way, by myself and the Honda Service Manager!

And the back wheels did not lock up!

Can anyone else out there try this and post results please.

Disclaimer: Don't hurt youself, anyone else, or your car!

Just a quick pull to see if your calipers actually grab & hold, then release so I can go back to me dealership & demand that they fix it better, because he is saying that it should not be able to do that anyway. They did not have any other SI to test with, and when I first told him about it, he said that it should be capable of locking up the rear wheels at highway speeds if I wanted to!

Thanks

I'm in a sedan. Maybe the tires didn't lock up but instead the pavement was slick or the tires suck and I was able to spin around. It was fun. Everybody laughed. :)

If you hit the emergency brake in nearly any car at 30-40MPH you WILL lock the tires and do a nice 180. :)

I'm not interested in doing this to my car, its got less than 750 miles on it. I only do this in a rental...

the E-Brake SHOULD lock, for what reason, im not sure. Get it fixed. Dont get it fixed just to yank it going 40 Mph...

3-4 clicks MAX while moving, hell maybe only 2-3..

No it shouldn't.

The E-brake is designed to slow the car in the event of the service brake failing, and to hold the car on a hill in a parking situation.

The only case in which you have a legitimate reason for the dealer to do any sort of repair is if your e-brake cannot hold your car on a hill.

The Si rear brakes and e-brake system is the same on the EX, if you want a vehicle to compare check that. The reason it won't lock is because it is a cam actuated disk e-brake. The DX and LX models have drum rear brakes. Drum e-brakes are grabby and will lock the wheel because they use one brake shoe to jam the other into the drum face.

Bottom line, you e-brake is working fine.
