Springs w/stock shocks/struts?

Some guy at an auto shop just told me that stock shocks with aftermarket springs won't wear my shocks out faster. He had a long explanation. But anyway, what do you guys think?

I think you ought to upgrade at some point. Mines been lowered for almost a year and they're becoming noisy.

Yeah I'm not taking his words as fact I'm just trying to see is it worth upgrading right away? Or can I save money for a bit? Has anyone had any personal experiences with doing this? I want progress springs on my 07SI.

and noisy as in?? just noise?

ya pretty much just noise. it "squeeks" when i drive over a bump or something. The 2 front ones do but the rear ones don't. You'll be fine for a while. But I must warn you, if you want to keep your tires for awhile then also buy a camber kit.

I'm not sure if the drop is enough to require one, but I will look into.

Don't assume that's the case with ALL lowering springs though. Espelirs blew out my stock s2000 shocks after only 1000 miles. The Comptech springs were designed with stock shocks partially in mind.

Do you think the progress springs may be too much for the stock shocks? I want them cause they are a reputable company for the best price for springs. I mean comptech is too, but they are more expensive.

every shock degrades over time...lowering it reduces the full range of motion the shock was intended for thus making the shock work within a reduced optimal range...this in turn makes the shock work harder just to control the oscillations of the spring...some people have said that some progressive springs last long with stock shocks but that is relative as to what road surface you are on...on smooth small bumpy roads progressive springs have a spring rate equal to stock if not less...on bumpier stuff the spring rate "progresses" resulting in a shock having to control a stiffer spring which wont necassarily blow the shock but increase the rate at which they degrade...shocks never blow they just leak

Okay that's actually really useful information so thank you. I think I might just get the springs and replace the shocks when it is time to. Might as well get the use out of the OEM ones.

Well at least it got you 10,000 miles. Does your suspension feel different though? Did it make noise at first? I feel like if it isn't affecting driving there is no need to replace. The drop from the progress is only 1.2/1.3 and the comptech's which are more expensive do 1.0/1.2. I'm assuming the lower the drop the more wear on shocks. What do you have?

Tein S-tech. I don't really notice a difference in the ride, just the noise they make. They also didn't make noise at first.

Teins S-techs here. 1 year, 16k miles so far, no noise, no camber issues, no differance in tire wear, and no ride comfort issues.

Wow that's pretty good. I wonder if progress springs will do the same. The drop is less then that of the S-techs so i would imagine it would.

^^haha okay. Well at any rate I've decided on Progress Springs on stock shocks and I'm just going to wait until the shocks go bad to replace them.

i started out with eibach pro kit on stock shocks...the shocks are still good after 9000 km...but my inner tread started to seperated just because it could control the oscillations of the spring and actually started to cup the tire
