Comptech Supercharger Installed!! +video

UPDATE 4/10/08: NEW THREAD! MORE BOOST! WOOT! http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/force...ry-thread.html

UPDATE 10/24/06:

Dyno run... 228.12hp / 158.68tq
Conditions: 78.09° F, 24.34 in-Hg, Humidity: 5%

Note: I did the install on 10/13/06, and this is what was posted on some other honda forums the next morning. I'll leave it as-is even though as of this posting I've not actually been awake 30hrs I just thought I'd share with the 8thcivic community. Enjoy!

-----

Ok bear with me... I've been up for almost 30hrs.

I got my kit last week, and sent my ECU to Hondata immediately. They reflashed it with the Comptech program on Thursday and it was delivered back at my house Friday morning. Or course I was working, so I had to wait until 5pm to go home and get it back in the car along with the battery.

So while still at work, Tai from Corsport calls me, and we meet up so he can give me my Carbing tower bar. I run and pick it up while at lunch, I figure it'd be a good idea to install it when I'm already taking the car apart.

I get home, reinstall the ECU and battery, and then load up my car with all the required accouterments and head on out.

Next, I drive to a nearby Honda dealership where my friend works, and he kindly flushed my A/C system.

Originally, that same friend was going to assist with the install, and let us use Honda's lifts, but he pooped out at the last minute. No biggie..

I call up another buddy and he tells me to come on down to his garage, and I oblige.

Get there around 7:30-8pm and finally get to working around the same time. The install was not too bad, but Comptech missed a few things in the install guide, forgot to include 1 important bolt and we had a hell of a time getting the oil filter off, which set us back a bit.

But we get it all installed and whatnot, with those minimal hiccups. (Missing bolt in kit, 2-4 missed steps in the instructions, and oh... that ************ of an oil filter that decided it DID NOT want to be removed. ) It literally took us 4-5 hours to get the piece of **** off.

So finally at about 8:00am this morning, we are ready to fire. What did I forget to do? Reconnect the electrical connectors for the fuel pump... Yea we need that... Back seats out once more! I don't know what time we finally finished.

First Experience:
In a single expression: OMGWTFBBQ

The car is a new animal. It has WAY more power and pickup and a sweet sweet whine to boot. First place we went was to the car wash. I hate greasy pawprints on my paint.

Leaving the car wash, I give a little extra gas in 1st, and tires break loose just about instantly. Since I'm not yet sure what to do with my new found power, I let off the gas and my meeting with a curb was averted.

I continued to romp a little bit for a few minutes before dropping my buddy off. Now here I sit, writing, trying to keep my eyes open, with a RIDICULOUS vehicle in my garage. The thing sounds, and acts like a mean ************!

Note:

The following things I DESPISE the FG2 for:
1. Why is the goddamn motor in my dashboard?! If I ever need to change plugs again, I need to remove my wipers, plastics, cowl, tower bar, and metal cowl piece. Not to mention the retarded death trap for nuts and sockets behind the cowl in the corners of the A pillars.

2. Who had the bright idea to put the access door for the fuel tank right in the middle of the trunk and back seats?!

3. Who the expletive invented the fuel delivery system? I felt like I was performing a lab experiment when removing the device from the tank. NOT a pleasant job whatsoever.

4. Oil filter = please kill yourself.

Ok, on to the juicy stuff. Ok only 10% juice....
As I'm sure you know, working on cars gets dirty. I'd rather not take a DSLR anywhere near a shop. Next best thing, camera phone!

Initial Images:

In progress:

Installed

Friends have more photos on their Digicam, and I'll post more as I receive the images.

And a couple of shitty videos: (sorry for the landscape mode. I'm waaay too tired to play in Premier)

1: Idle (The injector tick has gotten quieter since driving)

2: Quick romp on the way home (crap video)

3: Quick romp on the way home (crap video)

Enjoy!

GET A KIT, LOVE IT, NOW!

The car is a BLAST to drive!

Damn. Just when I'm ready to get the turbo you have to go and post this. Thanks. I could have used the supercharger today when I was trying to keep up to an SL 500.

Looks good.

I'm still a little eager to see what Jackson Racing is going to put out there, and how much it is going to cost.

As he said, I did it myself so installation was free. Minus the beer I owe my friend for letting me use his garage and staying up all night to help me.

Lift isn't really needed. Maybe to drain coolant, but there's nothing under the car to mess with.

The install would have taken around 7-9hrs if we had not spent 4-5hrs trying to get the damn oil filter off. Ridiculous.

Well, I wanted to change my oil as well. Since it was at the 6000 mile mark. For some reason, it was too tight to take off. On the SI, there is very little room to work with the filter, and there was no way to get good grip. We didn't have a filter tool, it was like 3am when we started so we were both tired. Made sure to only hand tighten it this time, because I do NOT want to go thru that again.
